Chapter 1
*Allegra’s POV
I was sitting on the edge of my bed just looking out my window, thinking about how nice it would be to meet the world, to leave this pack, to at least go outside the borders. I was just able to remember one time I left the pack, I was maybe four or five years old, and I didn’t even remember where I went. I never understood the reason why that would be that way, and from what I gathered from the few people I know the people are used to going around packs and meeting a lot of people. But we were never allowed to do that.
I’m the second child of the Moonstone Alpha family. My brother Matteo was very lucky to find his mate within the pack because I doubt that he would’ve found her if it wasn’t like that. I on the other hand didn’t have the same luck, I didn’t find my mate, he wasn’t from the pack… I wanted a mate, I wanted a love like my parents had, but it was impossible if I wasn’t allowed to leave.
“Alle, are you ready?” I heard my little brother Lorenzo asking me from outside my door. I didn’t even realize the time, I was late to my mom’s birthday. “We’re going to be late!! Hurry up,” Lorenzo yelled at me.
“Coming, Lo. Give me fifteen minutes, I promise!” I yelled back at him and rushed to the bathroom. I didn’t take long getting ready because I already knew what I wanted to wear so it was easier that way. I wore a blue sundress with a pair of Nikes, I loved wearing sneakers, it was something that I took from my dad because he liked it too. My hair is curly-ish so I liked it better when it was down, but I wanted to keep it out of my face for the celebration, so I braided my front pieces and tided in the back to create kind of a headband.
I went downstairs to meet with Lorenzo, he was sitting in the kitchen table eating something. I reached him and pocked his arm to let him know that I was ready and that we should get going. We didn’t speak at that moment, we just walked together to the pack house where we were having my mom’s birthday. As we arrived to the house I took the beauty of our packhouse, I couldn’t lie I loved it, all the architecture in it was beautiful.
“Alle, Lo, hello!” I heard Anna, my big brother’s mate, saying behind us. I turned around to meet her, she was probably one of the most beautiful wolves in the pack, she was the daughter of the previous Beta of my dad.
“You look amazing, An… As always,” I said to her and hugged her. Lorenzo did the same with Anna and we walked to the common area to meet the rest of my family. “Where’s Matteo?” I asked Anna as we walked.
“He has some pack matters this morning and left early, I needed to get ready and do a lot of things around the house, so I took my time,” she answered. She had some sadness in her eyes, and it seemed like she had been crying, I didn’t want to ask her as I assumed that they didn’t get pregnant again. They have been trying for a long time and nothing has happened. I felt very bad, I knew how much they wanted a baby, and how much my dad was pushing them into producing an heir, which I think is completely rude from him. I knew for a fact that they had been trying so hard, Anna has been increasing her vitamins and doing everything the doctors say.
As we walked into the common area, I saw that everything was decorated with white and yellow flowers, my mom’s favorite. She was sitting in the middle of the room in a table, my dad was sitting next to her and had one arm around her chair, so they remained close enough. Matteo was talking to Jack, his Beta.
“Mom, happy birthday!” I said as I walked to her and hugged her from behind. “So happy to share this day with you and I hope we get so many more years to celebrate you,” I kept hugging her as I congratulated her. My mom was beautiful, from what my dad had told us before, she was the most gorgeous wolf in the entire world, I always wanted what they had the most beautiful love ever.
“Honey, thank you so much, you look beautiful,” she said and wrapped her arms around one of my arms. I turned to hug my dad as I left some space for Lo and Anna to say something to my mom. We sat down in out sits while waiting for Matteo to finish his conversation with Jack. Their conversation seemed like something bad was happening because Matteo was looking around like he didn’t want us to know what was happening. But something was happening.
“Mom, happy birthday!” Matteo said a couple of minutes later and sat down next to Anna as we all joined for my mom’s birthday lunch. I couldn’t stop thinking about Matteo’s face, he was full of worry and confusion, something must’ve happened.
“Teo, darling, what’s happening?” My mom asked Matteo as she most likely sensed something happened with him.
“Nothing to worry about mom, it’s nothing…” he tried to lie, but Matteo was the worst lying, even Lorenzo was better than him. We all looked at him in disbelief, I raised an eyebrow to let him know that no one believe him. “You never believe anything I say…” he tried to protest.
“It’s because you’re the worst liar I’ve ever met in my entire life,” I said and laughed.
“Yes, Teo, we all know when you’re lying to us…” My mom said and laughed as well. No one thought it was actually something bad.
“What is it, Matteo?” My dad said in a very much serious tone. At that moment we all knew that he was obliged to say the truth, even if Matteo was the current Alpha for some reason we always hold great respect for our parents.
“I’m not sure, dad… Jack heard something about a Cameron, or a heir of Cameron. Or I don’t even know. I’m sure it’s nothing.” He said and smiled, but my mom and dad’s face changed immediately after hearing that.
“Did you say Cameron?” My mom asked and her eyes filled with tears. It was the first time I ever heard that name, what with that person?
