Lana P.O.V
My entire life … as far as I can remember back has been absolutely a nightmare. I can’t remember the last time I could even smile without having a fear of what would happen. Every time I looked like I was even the tiniest bit happy … I would receive the beating of my life, nearly even escaping with an inch of my life. I lay there in my cot, having a small competition with myself as I stared out of the window, looking at the snowflakes … I sat and betted on each snowflake that fell onto the window, how long it would take before it melted.
Beep! Beep! Beep!
My alarm clock sounded, and I knew t was time to get up and start off the day. This was the moment of each day that I really hated. This was the part of the day where I had to motivate myself to even try and get up to do my chores. With a groan, I dragged my body out of the bed, I quickly put on some slippers and gathered all of my clothes and cleaning supplies. I walked out of my broom closet and shivered as I felt the cold wind passing through the packhouse.
I knew it was going to be super cold outside. I have always hated the winter season for merely this reason. I wasn’t lucky enough, like all the other pack members, to have an ensuite bathroom or even a normal-sized bedroom. The current Alpha always made me bathe in the fishless fishpond just outside of the packhouse. It was 03:00 a.m ... so I knew that all of the members would luckily still be fast asleep.
I dipped my toe in the pond, it was almost completely frozen over, with only the exception of one tiny part. I knew that I had to get this over with quickly. The faster I moved, the easier it would be for me to hurry back inside and try to dress warmly before I get frostbite.
You are all most probably wondering how I got here. How my life was so screwed up that I was a maid in a packhouse where my father used to be an Alpha … so let me tell you.
I am Lana Decker. The youngest daughter born to the Alpha and the Luna of the Bloodstone pack. I have three older brothers. I was out on a picnic date with my parents. They were simply amazing. Each month, they took one of their children out on a mini-date to spend time with them. It was fall and we were having a picnic between all the dry autumn leaves. I was only, but twelve years old at the time.
- Flashback -
I wandered off in the forest, exploring as I always did while my parents were busy setting everything up. I wandered around with my little barbie doll, playing with her between all the colored leaves. I felt an eerie scary vibe around me and as I looked up, I stared back into the yellow eyes of a rogue. I screamed for dear life as I heard my mother and father call out for me. They knew by the pitch of my voice that there was big trouble and terror on its way. There were likely five rogues if I had managed to count correctly.
I couldn't run or even move as I saw more yellow eyes heading my way. I heard a big growl from behind me and knew that my parents were just behind me, ready to save me from these awful monsters. The rogue just kept snickering as he snapped his jaws at me continuously. I watched on in fear as the wolf kept stalking toward me, getting ready to lunge at me.
I was right ... the rogue lunged forward with its jaws wide open and ready to finish me off. My father jumped in the way just in time and knocked the rogue down to the ground. I was just frozen there in my spot. I couldn't move and nor could I even shift to try and protect myself.
My mother soon also appeared in her wolf form and took care of two other rogues while my father was fighting the one who lunged at me. You could hear sneers, snapping of jaws, and yelps all throughout the piece of forest. I heard one particular yelp and spun around, only to see the two other rogues ganging up on my mother. I could hear the pain she was in and it completely broke me. I just screamed as loud as I possibly could, hoping that some of the warriors or border patrols would be able to hear me.
My screams were quickly stopped as I heard the lone howl, coming from my father. I knew that howl ... that was a howl of sorrow. I dreadfully turned around to see my mother lying there in her wolf form, completely motionless. The two rogues who had ganged up on her viciously took her life as they started to slowly stalk around, wanting to catch my dad by surprise. My dad tried his best to fight off the rogue he currently had on him. The two rogues that killed my mother joined in and I stood there in complete horror as I watched them kill my father. For the last few seconds of his life, he turned his eyes to me and stared at me.
I wanted to cry so badly. I wanted my mama back! I don't want to lose my papa! As soon as the rogue had clamped his jaw down on my father's neck, I could hear the howls of the warriors in the distance. I knew that help had finally arrived but they were too late. The rogues had managed to kill the Alpha and the Luna of the Bloodstone pack. They started to stalk to me but something had scared them off as they dashed back into the forest from the direction they came.
Soon, the warriors had arrived and some of them shifted back into their human forms. My brothers quickly ran over to my parents as they shifted in their human forms. I could see the tears in their eyes. Jesse, Marco and Cole looked at me with shock written all over their faces, unable to believe what was right in front of their eyes.
"What did you do?!" Jesse, the eldest gritted through his teeth
- End of flashback -
I quickly ran back to my "room" which was actually just the broom closet. I have never been scared of getting cold, but man ... I was afraid of losing one of my toes with this winter. They said that this was one of the coldest winters our pack would face. I quickly got dressed just in time to start the pack breakfast and do the general cleaning all over the packhouse.
