Chapter 9 Misplaced romance

Elvis then immediately pushed away from the dead body of the jumbo. But unfortunately, it bit his neck the moment he put the ballpoint into its eye. He touched the wound and prayed that the skin would not be broken and no blood would flow out.   Thanks to the plastic films he wrapped before, his throat was not bitten through by the jumbo. But he still needed to check the wound in the mirror to see if there was any possibility that he would be infected.   Without the threat of life, Elvis could rest assured. Only then did he realize the unspeakable pain. He felt his body was about to fall apart.   With the sore and pain all over his body, Elvis strived to stand up and planned to go. But just as he turned around, he felt a pulling force from his arm. He was taken aback and immediately pressed the ballpoint in the zombie’s eye much deeper. Luckily, the zombie did not move, he breathed a sigh of relief.   After calming down, Elvis realized that it was because the zombie’s hand was still holding his arm tightly.   After trying for a long time, Elvis was still unable to break loose from the zombie’s hand. In the end, he removed the scissors from its arm and used them to cut off its thumb. Elvis then was able to get rid of it.   Elvis staggered and endeavored to make it to the washstand. He took off his helmet and looked at the awkward self in the mirror. The bite mark on the neck was nothing serious but with a bruise due to the protection of the plastic films.   He could not help but laugh out loud to fully express his joy. He did not stop laughing until he was choked by a cough.   After picking up the helmet and checking the deep teeth marks on it, he felt so lucky to have just escaped from death.   It seemed that extreme joy begot sorrow; he suddenly did not feel like laughing but crying. What a world! What a world! He complained to himself.   It was so extravagant a thing to expect to be alive now. You had no other choice but to strive to survive.   Standing for a while quietly, Elvis collected himself and walked up to the doorway to open the door for Abigail.   “Ouch!” Abigail was hit on the head and yelled out. She had pressed her ear against the door trying to figure out what was going on inside. With Elvis suddenly opening the door, she was hit by him on the head.   “Come on in. Let’s find the key together.” Elvis said to her as he opened the door wide.   They two walked into the manager’s office. Abigail retched again when she saw the dead woman with her broken head. While Elvis lied on the oversized sofa with his hands crossed behind his head and his eyes narrowed to relax.   The scene stimulated Elvis to picture what had happened between Alexander and the dead woman again. He could not help but sighed what a life he was leading! Others could enjoy s*x during work time while he had to work hard every day and was always unable to end the state of being single. Immersed in imagination, Elvis did not want to get up at all. Being so tired, he found it so comfortable to lie on the expensive leather sofa.   Elvis thought it would be so wonderful a thing to stay at that moment and lie here forever. But the reality was cruel. Maybe there was just death awaiting him when he got out. He was single for twenty-eight years, and what made things sadder was that he would only die virgin by then.   He opened his eyes and looked at Abigail who had just stood up after stopping for retching. She was ordinary-looking but was full of vitality in her twenties.   Elvis moved his body to the inmost part of the sofa, turned himself sideways and put one of his arms flat on the sofa. He then turned to Abigail and said, “Come here and rest for a while, I want a word with you.”   Abigail was surprised at first when she heard that. She did not know if she should go and sit there. Hesitating for a few seconds, she decided to do as Elvis said. On the sofa, she also turned herself sideways and rested her head on Elvis’s arm.   “You should know that we may die soon after going out,” Elvis said after a long silence.   Abigail indicated approval with a nod, showing she knew the danger lied ahead and then waited for Elvis to go on talking.   But Elvis stopped. Instead, he tightened his arm and pulled Abigail toward him. He then leaned forward and kissed her lips.   Abigail was taken aback and struggled to break loose from his arm. However, the harder she struggled, the tighter Elvis held her. Being in an inferior position regarding strength, she gradually stopped resisting and became obedient.   Abigail followed the movement of Elvis’s lips awkwardly. Being so near to him, she felt her heart beating violently. What surprised her the most was that she began to enjoy the kiss. She had a nameless desire inside hoping the man in front of her to hold her in his arm forever.   After a long time, their lips were separated. They looked at each other silently with heavy breaths as if they were both waiting for the other to break the silence first.
