ARIEL'S POV
I was still recovering from the rogue attack—and now, something even more terrifying had appeared.
I wanted to shift, to give myself a better chance of fighting. But then it shook itself violently again, freezing me. Another attempt to break free from the chain… and somehow, it stirred something in me besides fear.
Pity.
Unlike the rogue yesterday, there was this faint, ridiculous urge to help it instead of fight it. That didn’t make sense. I couldn’t understand why. But I’d be a fool to listen to such an instinct in a moment like this. Maybe it was hypnotizing my mind.
