GILDA’S POV
I got back inside the house, went to my room, and found an envelope lying on my bed. I picked it up and looked at it. There was a card inside.
I wondered who might have sent it. I held the envelope in my hands, staring at it for a long moment, then dropped it.
“Who could have sent this to me?” I wondered aloud.
I tried to think of someone, but nothing came to mind, and that unsettled me.
I decided to leave it alone for the moment. Then it occurred to me that Jane might have placed it there to trap me. I moved the envelope aside and sat down. It was going to be a long day, and I prepared myself for it.
I went into the shower and stayed there for a while. I washed thoroughly and came out refreshed. After I was fully dressed, there was a knock on my door.
