The Bride of The Last Well - Chapter 1My name is Aman. I returned to Pipraich village after 15 years. My grandmother was dead. The whole village was gathered at our house, but no one wanted to talk about how she died. My uncle just said, "She went to the well."In Pipraich, there is an old well on the edge of the fields. No one goes there after 6 PM. Everyone says a bride lives in that well. Her husband killed her 50 years ago and threw her body in the well.At 2 AM, I could not sleep. The village was too silent. Then I heard it. A woman was crying. Not normal crying. It was like someone is crying inside water. The sound was coming from the well side.I took my phone torch and went out. I walked towards the fields. The well was 300 meters away from my house. As I went closer, the crying became louder. And I could smell something. The smell of wet bridal clothes. The smell of mehndi and blood mixed. When I reached the well, I saw something that stopped my blood.A woman in a red bridal lehenga was sitting on the edge of the well. Her back was towards me. Her long black hair was wet and touching the ground. She was crying and her shoulders were shaking.I whispered, "Who are you?"She stopped crying. The night became completely silent. Even the insects stopped. Then she slowly turned her head. Not her body. Only her head turned 180 degrees. Her face was in front of me, but her body was still facing the well. Her face was half burnt. One eye was completely white. Her bridal makeup was melted with blood. And she was smiling. She said in a dead voice, "Finally, you came to take me out?"I screamed and fell down. My phone torch fell into the well. I could see deep inside the well, there were many other faces looking up at me. Children, old men, women, all dead, all white. The bride started coming down from the well. She was not walking. She was floating. She came near me. Her wet, cold hand touched my face. Her hand smelled like dead mud.She whispered in my ear, "Your grandmother also touched my hand. Now it is your turn. If you don't come to me tomorrow night, I will come inside your house."And then she disappeared.I ran to my house. I went to my uncle and told him everything. My uncle's face became white. He said, "She has chosen you, Aman. In our village, every 10 years she chooses one boy from our family. Your grandfather, then your father, now you. If you don't go, she will kill everyone in this house."That whole day I could not eat. At 3:00 AM, I took a rope and went to the well. The well was waiting for me. The water inside was boiling, even though it was cold outside. And from inside the well, hundreds of hands were coming out, calling me.

The last well
There was a saying in Rudrapur village - "You can drink water from any well, but never even look at the last well." It had only been three days since Anjali's marriage when her mother-in-law Kamla warned her, "Daughter-in-law, no matter what happens, never fetch water from the well in the back courtyard." But the summer was so harsh that both wells in the house had dried up. Anjali's husband was away in the city. Only she and her mother-in-law were at home. At 2 AM, Anjali woke up thirsty. There was not a single drop of water in the pot. Her mother-in-law was in a deep sleep. Out of helplessness, Anjali picked up a lantern and walked towards the back courtyard. There was a very old well there, covered with wooden planks. As soon as she removed the planks, a gust of cold wind came from inside the well. The water was crystal clear and shining in the moonlight. But in that water, she could not see her own reflection, but someone else's. A bride. In a red wedding dress, with open hair, and eyes that were completely black. Anjali dropped the bucket in fear. Then a voice came from the well, "After so many years, a bride has finally come... now it's my turn to become a bride again." Anjali ran inside the house and woke up her mother-in-law. Kamla's face turned pale. She said in a trembling voice, "I told you not to go... 20 years ago, your father-in-kmere wet footprints on the floor, coming straight towards Anjali. The lantern went out on its own.
