Chapter 51
The first chunk of video showed the Colomo buzzing with life. The ship as it should be. The people, though… they were shocking in their appearance. Not hideous, not monstrously different. That was what made them so shocking — how close they were to looking human while still being so far from it.
The complete lack of a nose or anything resembling it made them look particularly… well, alien. Having heard them described couldn’t begin to prepare Jess for the sight of them.
And yet… they weren’t so different. As Jess watched them going about their business, some hurrying, others taking their time, Jess could start to ignore how they differed from humans and see the similarities. Then the video cut out with a jarring screech.
