Clay lay awake for a long time, thoughts tumbling through his head. Fear threatened to overwhelm him for a while, but the more he thought about the situation the less likely it seemed that he was in immediate danger.
The fact he was still alive, and Zeek’s people had worked hard to keep him that way, was what started to relieve the fear. Dozens of reasons why they would kill him flowed through his head, but none of them offered any reason not to have done it already.
It was still possible he was in danger, that his rescuers wanted something from him and would kill him once they had it, but he couldn’t think what it would be.
