Jess stared at the strange structures of Sanctuary as the Wanderer started to move away. To the eye nothing had changed, but to Jess everything had. Ali was in there, somewhere, and he was leaving her behind.
The Guardian hadn’t even asked him, hadn’t given him a choice. The Guardian had simply informed him that Ali had been removed from the Wanderer. She had been removed partly to ensure Jess returned and partly to eliminate any temptation he would feel to set her free. With her implants Ali posed a huge danger to the Wanderer.
Jess knew there was no choice. He knew it had to be done. He still felt like a traitor, like he was abandoning her. There were no more tears. Despite the acidic burning in his chest the tears were gone now. He couldn’t find any words to matc
