Kruso was at her desk, scribbling something down, as Walker strode in. He didn’t miss the glances his way from the other cops. Of course everyone now knew all about some woman screwing with Walker and having his balls nailed to the wall, and it irritated him that anyone knew about his personal business. It was embarrassing, and it created a distance he didn’t like.
“How’s Kate?” Kruso didn’t look up as she asked, and he wondered how she did that. It seemed as if she was totally engrossed in what she was doing, yet at the same time she was giving her attention to Walker.
“Good, fine, was dragged into work with her mother.”
“Just a heads-up, by the way, the captain has been looking for you, wanting to talk with you regarding Shelley. It seems charges aren’t going to happen.” S
