Chapter 16
He would rather have slit his own wrists than seen the pain he was responsible for putting on Kate’s face. He couldn’t believe how still she’d gone, how pale her face was as she pulled away from him. It was a response he hadn’t expected.
“Kate, baby, please listen to me.”
She was standing behind the sofa as if putting a wall between them. Maybe if she screamed and yelled or hit him, it would at least make him feel a little better. She raised her hand and said, “Shh.” She was shaking just to get him to stop as if that was the only way for her to figure out how to deal with this situation. He loved her deeply.
“You need to hear all of this, Kate. Let me tell you all of this, and then you can yell and say whatever, but hear me out.”
