The jagged line that cuts along the side of my calf reminds me of a time when men and women alike were tested by life. Long ago, men and women needed to prove their strength before taking their place in society. A physical evidence of this was a lingering red mark on my left calf. To some it appeared to be nothing more than a vulgar scar, but for me it is much more. It is the story of my personal experience and the memories that come with it. Everytime I gaze upon that marred patch of skin, I'm reminded of the lessons learned during that period - the importance of discipline, fortitude, and resilience. The scar tells its own story and has become a daily reminder to adapt to this ever changing world we live in.

I have a scar on my right cheek, a reminder of the men and women who have been in my life and their personal impact. It’s a mark that reminds me of an experience I had as a young adult. I was walking down the street one night when two men confronted me; looking back, I can see how the situation could quickly have gotten out of hand but, with some quick thinking and courage, I managed to get home safely. As for the scar itself, it’s not only a reminder of what could have been but also serves to remind me of the lessons I’ve learned from my life experiences: be aware at all times, remain calm under pressure and never forget to trust your intuition.

This scar has been a part of men and women's lives for decades, the memory how it was earned engraved on forever. Everyone has their own personal experience that proudly carries the reminder of their own journey. It isn't a wound to be ashamed of but quite the opposite: an almost honorary battle wound that tells your story better than words ever could. Every scar holds its own stories, lessons, and experience that are as important to share as any other part of ourselves. This scar can help you relate to others when telling your story just like each unique mark on our skin connects us in life’s collective experiences.
