Fearsome Reputation

Alpha Daniel's POV. My name is Daniel Thorpe. I'm the Alpha of the Black Hawk Pack. I have been searching for my mmate for several years. I have been the Alpha of this pack since the death of my father six years ago.I am 27 years old now. My mother died shortly after the death of my father because fated wolves cannot live long after the death of their mates. The search for my mate has been intense. I had gone to several packs searching for my mate without success. I also attended many Werewolf activities with the hope of finding my mate but without success. It's actually not true that I'm an introvert which many many attribute to my inability to meet my mate all these years. Far from it. I'm actually an outgoing Werewolf, only that I have my own circle of friends among the Alphas. It's quite possible that a vast majority of the Alphas do not like me because they consider me to be troublesome, but there's still a good number of my colleague Alphas who like me and whom I get along very well with. So, probably because I'm out of the group of what you can call the mainstream Alphas, I've never attended Alpha Duncan's birthday, previously. They say it is a yearly ceremony. I had just recently become friends with Alpha Duncan Morris, though I've known him for quite a long time. Though he's a very well respected Alpha, I had always kept him at arm's length and he in turn deliberately avoided associating with me. The frosty relationship between us ended recently when a friend, another Alpha brokered a truce and we became friends. So, I was invited to his birthday party and I decided to honor his invitation for the very first time. My major motive when I left my Pack office was to honor Alpha Duncan's invitation and then to enjoy myself at the party. The last thing on my mind when I left my pack was the mate issue. I had virtually given up on the mate issue, so I was not expecting to meet anyone there. That morning, I had called Raymond, one of my Pack drivers to get one of the cars ready for the journey. I also summoned two of my aides, who also doubled as guards, to get themselves ready to accompany me to the event. The invitation letter clearly invited some other members of my pack, mostly ranking wolves like the Beta, Gamma and the Pack doctor. For the others, I had instructed my Beta, Brian to arrange for another pack driver to convey them with a pack vehicle if they wished to attend. Whether they chose to go was entirely up to them, they were at liberty. When we were ready to move, I sat at the back with my two aides sitting on either side of me. Raymond joined the highway as we started the journey. Within forty five minutes, we had arrived at the Crystal River Pack. We parked in front of their Pack house and entered into the hall I was ushered to a section reserved for invited Alphas and I took my seat, took a deep breath and quickly surveyed the entire hall. It was buzzing already but the program was yet to start Some minutes later the celebrant came into the hall with his guards, shook hands with the Alphas and several other invited guests before going to take his seat. As soon as he sat down, the master of ceremony announced the start of proceedings. Guests were asked to sing the birthday song for the celebrant. We all stood up and rendered the song after the count of three. After we had rendered the song, Alpha Duncan stood up and expressed appreciation to everyone present for the song. As the party continued, I began to feel signs of.intense excitement in my spirit. My wolf, Jake, had become excited beyond the ordinary. Anytime Jake started to act like this, then there is definitely someone of interest that he wants me to meet. Who could it be that Jake was excited about? Could it be our mate? No, it cannot be. I've already given up on this mate issue after an extensive search. I'm definitely not here to search for a mate and I really don't think of any now. I was still wondering who it could be when Jake spoke, "There is someone very important to us that we should meet here today," After hearing that from Jake, whatever misgivings I was having started to wane. I glanced around the hall to try and see something that would point me towards what my wolf was talking about, but there was nothing. Suddenly, I started to perceive a very sweet smelling scent from a particular part of the hall. I turned my head to feel which part of the hall the aroma was emanating from. Then I saw a beautiful woman who looked to be in her mid-twenties stand up from her seat and moved towards the toilet. My wolf instinct told me the scent was coming from her. Acting on an instinct, I Rose up from my seat and followed her. As I moved closer to her, I could feel the scent become stronger. Yep, this is the confirmation I need. The scent definitely emanated from her. Could she then be the elusive mate I'd been searching for? it could well be. On getting close to the rear entrance of the pack house, she turned to the right and entered the toilet. I then quickly decided to exit the hall to get some fresh air. The hall was even getting too stuffy for my liking. As i stood outside the hall catching some air, I suddenly saw her exiting the hall and walking towards me. At this point, my wolf spoke again, "She's our mate, welcome her." I then introduced myself. "I'm Daniel. Daniel Thorpe, the Alpha of the Black Hawk Pack" "My name is Luna Laura Taylor of the Golden Emerald Pack," she said. My face furrowed when I heard her introduce herself as Luna, because it could only mean one thing: she is married. Then I asked her if she was married and she answered 'yes' Then I growled in anger. I could not imagine why the mate I'd been looking been seeking for the last seven years or more would be married to another person I got the greater shock when I asked her for how long she had been married and she said five years. I could not hide my indignation that my mate had been married to someone else for five long years. I growled again, this time, louder and more prolonged. The name she mentioned as her husband doesn't even ring a bell. I have never really heard of him and I let her know it. "What pack did you say your husband heads?" I asked her. She chuckled before giving me a reply. "I said the Golden Emerald Pack." "Ok," I answered. "And how long has he been the Alpha of his pack?" "Over five years now," she replied. "But why.....?" "I don't know him, never even heard that name before, that's why. He must be one of those unpopular Alphas who are all over the place," I said. She chuckled. "I think he's relatively well known. Maybe you don't know him only because your paths have never really crossed." I nodded to agree with her. Suddenly, we heard a growl coming from inside the hall. It was a familiar wolf growl but I wouldn't know who was growling and why. But my mate whom I have now fondly started to call her name knew. "My husband," she said. "That's his voice. He didn't see me in the hall anymore and he fully knows I'm here with you. That's why he growled," she said. I didn't immediately know how best to respond to her. "What did you call his name again, I asked disdainfully, scratching my head "Joshua Andrew," she answered, casting me an impatient look. The growl from her husband did not really move me one bit. Certainly it didn't evoke any iota of fear in me. Rather, it had the opposite effect. I was fast getting irritated by his growls. Of course any wolf could growl as they wished at any time. That's their prerogative. But for a wolf to keep my mate married to himself while still being with his own mate is grossly unacceptable to me. Why would he continue to growl over someone else's mate? I find it totally incomprehensible, to say the least. Yes, he made a mistake marrying my mate despite knowing from the start that she's not his mate. But why not let go of her now that she's met her real mate? Well, maybe he doesn't know yet that the man his wife is talking to outside the hall is her real mate. If he doesn't know yet, he will soon get to know. The woman sitting close to me on a bench outside the Pack house told me the wolf is an Alpha, so that makes him my colleague. I wouldn't like any confrontation with him, at least not for now. Otherwise I would not let her go back to his pack with him. I would just take her home with me and the next thing he would get would be a divorce notice, to be followed by arrangements to get her associates and property to my pack. These things are what I could very well do, without batting an eyelid. Is there no reason why I'm feared by a vast majority of other Alphas? They say I have a fearsome reputation. Thanks to some brutal actions I've taken in the past. Well, I've to push aside this man's distraction's and focus on my mate now that I've found her. "Come closer to me, darling," I said as I stretched my hands forward to pull her closer to myself. She did come close but rather very reluctantly. Even the hug, she agreed to it rather reluctantly. I could see from her face that she was worried about something which I wouldn't know unless I asked her. I heard another growl from inside the hall and I chose to completely ignore it. If I choose not to ignore it, what would i have done? Let go of my mate? That would be a definite no-no. So I continued showing my mate her long deserved attention. After all, it's been many years since we've been looking for each other and our paths did not cross until now. As we held each other, feeling the warmth of each other, I relaxed my grip on her, drew my head backwards and tried to kiss her on the lips She pulled her head back, trying to avoid my mouth. "Why are you hesitating, my dear? Haven't we just discovered we are each other's mates?" She fell silent for a while, obviously searching for an answer. "I'm still married," she said solemnly, showing me the ring on one of her fingers.
