Chapter 1
Rosa POV
Five years and counting — neither have I gotten a miscarriage nor have I gotten pregnant. Everything just feels wrong to me, the way people look at me as if I am cursed or as if I can't bear an heir.
Five years ago I got married to the Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack, the strongest pack in the East region. I felt loved, but soon the love they showed me turned into nightmares.
"We need an heir, it's been years already and it has never happened in the history of this pack!" They all said it in the pack, even my mother-in-law was in support.
I tried everything humanly possible but nothing ever resulted in something successful.
"Rosa, I need an heir!" I could see the pain in his eyes, the way the words rolled out from his lips. I quickly bent my head down a bit, trying not to meet his gaze.
"I have tried but....."
"Rosa, try more, you're a woman for Christ's sake, do what every other woman would do to satisfy her husband." He cut me off.
"Marvel, what haven't I done to get an heir, ehhh, tell me?" Anger rose in me. "Just don't stress me anymore about this whole heir-bearing issue, besides it's just five years, we still have a lot of years together." Before I could round up my words he let out a chuckle that felt like mockery.
"You say we still have time?" He chuckled harder than the last.
"Marvel..."
"To be informed, the pack is preparing someone from an outside pack to bear me an heir." I immediately locked eyes with his. The words made a part of me go dead silent.
He's cheating on me because he needs an heir. Why? What about the years we both already suffered together? What about everything we both have done?
"Tell me you're joking about this, Marvel." His face turned dead serious.
"Do I look like someone who's joking?" He turned and walked as if he was counting each of his steps. Soon his hands were on the knob of the door.
"Marvel..." The words slowly left my lips, silent and quiet.
"From now henceforth, it's Alpha Marvel." He twisted the knob and shut the door loudly behind him. My chest tightened at the whole scene.
I couldn't bring myself to believe whatever he was saying. He's getting a new woman to lay in his bed, all because he wants an heir for the throne.
I collapsed on the bed. My brain couldn't think straight anymore. I just sat there staring directly at the door, the silence wrapping around me like a cold shroud.
"What if he was just saying those words to get to me? Maybe he was joking to see my reaction?" I murmured the words to myself.
But I wasn't sure if he was joking with my feelings. His expression said otherwise — he didn't seem like someone who was joking.
I slowly jolted up from the bed and paced toward the door, twisted the knob and walked through the dark long hallway.
My mind was clouded, my feet could barely move without staggering.
The hallway stretched for at least three minutes before I met Selena.
Selena had always been the talk of the town — how she ruled the pack alone when her husband, Alpha Marvel's father, kicked the bucket.
She wasn't just a woman, she was a woman of power and integrity, but over time she grew a visible hate towards me. I just couldn't understand why she stopped being the cool mother-in-law and became the antagonist of my own life.
"Selena, I want to have a word with you." Her expression changed almost immediately she heard my voice.
"If it isn't Rosa, the barren Luna..." She slowly turned around, like a villain.
"Selena, I haven't come here for you to remind me of my situation. I have come here for a very serious issue." I looked at her without fear, but with disgust.
"What situation is bigger than you being barren? Ehhh, Rosa. Alpha Marvel needs an heir, I need an heir, the entire Blood Moon Pack needs an heir." Her voice felt like venom.
"Is the rumor of Alpha Marvel getting a woman from an outside pack true?" The whole hallway went dead silent for some minutes. Our gazes met each other's, as if we were about to come to blows.
"What if I said it was true!" The words came out with a smile spreading across her lips.
"That's all I needed to know, and you have proven me right, Selena." I turned my back almost immediately.
This time I didn't let her see the fear in me. I walked with my head high and kept a straight face as I returned to my room. I closed the door hard behind me.
I ran towards the bed and collapsed. Tears streamed down my eyes, almost uncontrollably.
The man who took my virginity is now getting to lay with another woman, all because I couldn't provide an heir.
My chest tightened harder each time tears streamed down my cheek.
I sat back up, using the back of my palm to wipe my face clean. My lips twisted like a villain's.
"If he decides to destroy me and my reputation before the whole pack, I shall do the same to him." I stared at nothing for a long moment, the decision settling into my bones like something permanent. Then I looked at the side table beside the bed and picked up my phone.
My hands scrolled through it violently as I searched for my best friend Samantha's contact.
The phone rang for a few seconds. "Samantha, come to the pack house, we need to talk as soon as possible."
"How urgent is this discussion?"
"More urgent than anything else."
"You'll see me in five!"
