It begins
It started unexpectedly, for it was a sunny morning, without any signs of disaster.
I woke up early, cursing the alarm. I'm definitely not an early bird. After a refreshing cup of coffee and a half of croissant, quickly throwing my stuff into a backpack, I walked to school.
On the way, I sent a message to Ari, my best friend, asking where is he. He saw it, but didn't answer at all, not even with a like or a dot.
Then I heard something behind my back, and managed to turn around just in time to catch a biscuit, which turned into crumbles the second i touched it. In a distance, Ari laughed loudly. Of course it was him, the bastard threw a biscuit at me. I swear to Selene, he can be so childish sometimes!
"F you, I'll not help you during the exams if you do that again!"I yelled across the street, but he just waved as if he didn't care at all and ran to me, quickly and gracefully, for he had the senses of a lion. Oh yeah, I came from a shapeshifter family aswell, specifically a panther one. It didn't really matter if you were one or not, since no one was able to shift since ages. Under ages, i mean around 400-500 years. Thats when an old, stupid man decided no one deserved the gift of an inner beast, and sealed them away. Luckily for us, a cat shapeshifter managed to look behind the curtain once before, to see the future, and create a prophecy based on it.
For me, it was some random bs. I still had the senses of a wild beast, I had night vision better than some military device, my sense of smell was one of the best, and my hearing was legendary.
Everyone still had the perks of the ranking in their pack, for example, Alphas healed much quicker and was stronger than any of us, while an Omega would take days to heal a small wound, and was a bit stronger than a normal human. I was the daughter of a Delta. I was perfectly okay with not being able to shift. Ari was the one who wanted it so badly.
Anyways, he ran to me, with a big smile on his stupid face.
"Hey Haddie, guess what I managed to get yesterday!"
"What?"
"I reached mythic glory in MLBB!"
"Wow, congratulations, you are in the 100000 best players!"
"Heyy, its a big thing, you never managed do it!" he said it and elbowed me.
"Okay, okay, its impressive, I am so so proued of you, and its the biggest thing you ever did in your whole life!"
"Yeah yeah, keep talking, Hads, secret queen of sarcasm!"
We laughed and walked towards the building, the biggest in town.
It was a normal weekday morning. We always annoyed each other no matter what, played pranks against the other almost nonstop, then laughed together at the end.
Suddenly, a big lightning hit the tree next to us. It was strange, since there were no clouds at all. It came from thin air, burning down the tree, then another lightning hit us. I only remember others facing towards me warily, then complete blackness.
Waking up on a hospital bed isn't an experience I wish for anyone.
My head hurt, I felt nauseous, and my back was weirdly itchy. A doctor came into the room and asked if I knew who I was and what happened. After telling her everything I knew, she left, and came back with Ari. He was already walking, without any sign of disease. It wasn't a surprise, he was the son of the Alpha, if only with an Omega mother.
Yeah, his parents had the fairytale of the year.
His dad thought he found his mate, who was an Omega girl, and mated with her immediately. She died giving birth to Ari, due to being an Omega and since weaker than most of us. His father married a daughter of another Alpha later. Ari had the abilities of someone from an Alpha bloodline, but not strong enough to be the next one. His younger brother already surpassed him in fighting skills and strength.
"Haddie, how are you? Are you alright? Is your head okay? You were out for an hour!"
"My head hurts terribly, and can someone check my back?" I asked, since the itching got worse than mere 10 seconds before.
The doctor commanded Ari out of the room, then removed my shirt to check my back. I waited for an explanation, but the second she saw it, she gasped and ran out of the room.
"Hello? What the heck? Why did she ran away? Is there a big ugly wound on it?" I was terrified.
A minute later she came back with the Alpha, the Luna and the librarian of the pack.
"I swear, she has to be the one! Look at the mark!"
"Show me!" the librarian commanded, and the physician removed my shirt again. I tried to cover my chest with my hands, but luckily, there was no need. They payed no attention to it, only focusing on my back.
"It is true! The prophecy is right! She has to get the treatment right now, or all will be lost!"
"Beautiful mark by the way, she should be proud to be chosen by the Goddes!"
"It is an unimaginable honour."
"What mark. WHAT MARK!?" I yelled, not caring about the Alpha, or the librarian, scared for my life.
"Dear,Selene chose you to bring back our inner beasts!" the Luna said it softly, and I started crying.
"What? I dont understand. I want Ari!"
"Well, you have to wait for that a bit, we have urgent business first. You have to receive the treatment first, quickly before it fades away. We have to go to the sanctuary right now!" the librarian's voice was dead serious, and I decided better not argue with them, risking ending up as a rogue.
I slowly got out of the bed, and with the help of the Luna, walked in front of the big mirror in the room. I looked at my back, and surprise hit me harder than that lighting.
There was a big black mark on it, slightly resembling a dragon flying infront of the full moon.
