Ben managed to avoid the I told you sos when they got done with their meal and headed back to the house, mainly because Lennon was doing such a great job of it himself. He clearly hadn’t expected to get caught up in the mess with the reporter, or even recognized. The fact that he had been recognized chafed at him, and all in places anyone could see.
By the time they were ready to leave for New York on Monday morning, still under cover of darkness, Ben had gotten over his ire. Lennon had not, but Lennon hadn’t ever been good at getting over his own errors. Ben could now sit back and admire the aplomb with which Lennon had responded to the intrusion.
What must it have been like to turn into someone who could expect to get interrupted like that, at any time? Ben couldn’t imagine
