The sun was edging over the mountains before a deputy and two guards brought in the first of the prisoners, two Indians and three Anglos, all unkempt and sullen looking. The captives were quickly handcuffed to a heavy chain fastened to the back of a tracked bulldozer, and one of the guards stayed to watch them. As the morning wore on, the number of prisoners increased. News began to trickle in. The Euclid outside the yard was a total loss and still burning.
