Chapter 16After he hung up, Dusty picked up Mari’s note to read again, trying to find hidden in the words some clue to her feelings and thoughts. Certainly the words themselves said very little.
Dear Dusty, I am going to go back to the Stables now. With all the bad guys in custody, it should be safe enough, don’t you think? Danny will be here tomorrow and I have to clean up the house some before he gets here. I am sorry you had to put up with Tee Dee and me for so long. I guess I should have more friends. I know you are going to be busy for a while now, getting things back on track and catching up, but as bad as it was, it could’ve been lots worse. I am grateful it wasn’t. Take care. Love, Mari
