Danny grinned back. “Hey, kid, you’ve done great. You won’t hear any complaints from me.”
“But Berne…”
“If he comes out of this, he’ll keep his mouth shut if he knows what’s good for him.” Danny’s tone was grim. “He screwed up big time as far as I can see. The business about Mitch really torques me.”
“I don’t quite understand it all, but I think he meant well. He thought he was doing both of us a favor, the way he sounded.”
“Oh yeah? Maybe so, but this place is half mine. I want to see some changes made. I might even stay, take over if Berne can’t. Callie has been wanting me to quit. At least the bulls. Maybe it’s time. Listen, Sis, whatever you want to do is okay with me. I’m not nailing your boots here like Berne was trying to do. If you want to stay though, you know you’re welcome.
