It's Not So Bad

Chapter 1 part 1

‘I can’t be late!’ was the thought going through my head. My name is Kiiarda Akiyama and today is my first day at UA High, although it’s already mid-year at the school. The sports festival just happened a little bit ago.

I am on my way to class 1-A, and I don’t want to be late. I can see the huge door a few feet away from me and there is someone else already there. The guy is about two inches taller than me with purple hair that stands up like he got electrocuted.

I don’t like bothering people, but I want to know something. “E-excuse me.” I said a little quietly but loud enough for him to hear me. He turned around and said, “Yeah?” a little hesitantly. “U-um, I’m sorry to bother you, b-but, um, I just wanted to know if I was late for class or if I was supposed to be here a lot earlier.” I said. It took a moment before he asked me, “Are you new here?”

“To the school or the class? Well, in any case, I am new to both. I haven’t been to UA before. Is that bad?” I said a little fearful of what might happen. “Oh, you’re fine, I just wanted to know. You’re not late, by the way, I am a new student as well. I am just transferring classes.” He said a little quickly. I sighed in relief, ‘At least I’m not late. But now I have to walk into class. All those people will stare at me, what if they judge me as soon as I walk in? What if I fall as soon as I walk in? What happens if-‘

“Hey, are you okay?” the guy said.

I snapped out of my thoughts and said, “Oh yeah, sorry about that. I just get nervous really easy and sometimes it leads to a panic attack. Honestly, you just snapped me out of it before one started. My name is Kiiarda Akiyama by the way.” I stuck my hand out for a handshake. He hesitated a bit before saying, “Hitoshi Shinso. Side question, what’s your quirk?” and shook my hand. “Nice to meet you Shinso. U-um, I’d rather not say mine. I’m not proud of it.” I said and hugged my arms. “I’m usually not one to pry, but if you tell me yours, I will tell you mine.” He said.

I don’t know why, but I feel like I can trust what he says. I just hope he doesn’t think badly of me like other people do. I waited a couple seconds before I said, “D-demon-a-angel.” I shut my eyes and waited for him to yell at me because of the demon part of my quirk. I didn’t hear anything, so I opened my eyes and saw him staring at me with a confused look. He shrugged and said, “My quirk is Brainwash.” “How does that work?” I asked him hoping he would answer me. “If I ask someone a question and they give any form of a verbal answer, I can take control of their mind and make them tell me anything or do anything I want.” He said. “You could take down the whole mafia all by yourself. That’s pretty cool.” I said.

He looked taken aback by my compliment, I don’t know why. “U-um, I realize that this might be a bit too fast, but can we be friends? If not then that is completely fine as well, I just wanted to know.” I asked him. He took a bit longer to answer this time and said, “Sure.” I smiled a bit in thanks, and he did a very small smile in return.

Just then, the door opened to reveal a person I recognize to be the Underground Hero, Eraserhead, but what is he doing here? “I have been trying to get you two’s attention for two minutes. Come in.” he said and went to the podium thing that’s in the front of the classroom. ‘I can’t believe it, I already got in trouble, and I’ve only been here for 10 minutes!’ I thought a bit upset with myself. Shinso just rolled his eyes and gave me a small smile.

“Alright, now that I have everyone’s attention, we have two new students. One you might recognize from the sports festival and from class 1-C, the other one is completely new, never been here before. I am your teacher Mr. Aizawa. You will say your name, quirk, and something about yourself. When that is done, I will place you in your seat. Now, go ahead and start.” Mr. Aizawa said.

“My name is Hitoshi Shinso, my quirk is Brainwash, and I don’t need any more friends than the one I got.” Shinso said.

Everyone looked at me as they awaited me to introduce myself.

I didn’t like the eyes on me, so I looked at the ground as I said, “My name is Kiiarda Akiyama………my quirk is Demon-angel and I like music.”

I waited for people to start yelling at me for “being a demon.” As we stood there and no one made a sound, Mr. Aizawa said, “Alright, thank you for the introduction. Now as for seating, Shinso will sit behind Kaminari, and Akiyama, you are seared in-between Bakugo and Midoriya. Kaminari stand up.” The one with yellowish blonde hair and a black lightening streak in his hair stood up and waved at us. Well, more Shinso but he still waved. “I’m Denki Kaminari incase that wasn’t already clear. You can call me Denki though. Bakugo is that one by the window.” Denki said then pointed to the ash blonde by the window. The guy looked like he was shocked out of his mind. I don't blame him since I haven’t seen Bakugo in about 8 years.

As we walk to our assign seats, I look down at the ground and try to not make eye contact with Bakugo. Once I was in my seat, Mr. Aizawa began class. “Since I am tired and we have new students, today you can do whatever you want as long as you don’t wake me up and you don’t destroy the building.” He said as he looked pointedly at Bakugo and then sunk into a yellow sleeping bag. Some snickered at that remark, but Bakugo just glared at Aizawa and rolled his eyes.

A guy with blue eyes and glasses stood up and said, “My name is Tenya Ida, I am the class president and if you need help with anything or don’t know something, just come to me. I will help you to the best of my abilities. Welcome to class 1-A.” Once we nodded our head that we understood, the whole class erupted into chatter and people started moving around the classroom to talk to their friends.

I saw Kaminari turn around and start talking to Shinso, so I turned back to see that Bakugo had turned around in his seat towards me and said, “Where the hell have you been?!” in a not so loud but threatening tone which was unusual, so I know that I’m in trouble. He still has that angry scowl on his face from when we were younger.

I was about to answer him when someone slammed their hands on my desk which made me flinch as I snapped my head towards who it was. Turns out, it was a girl with horns on her head and pink skin. Hey Bakuhoe, and wha-“ she was interrupted as Bakugo pushed her face away with his hand. “Not now Pinky!” he yelled at her which caused me to flinch again.

Bakugo glanced at me then said, “You are coming with me. Nerd, let’s go.” As he pointed to me and stood up. I got up and followed him outside of the classroom into the hall. I noticed that Midoriya was right behind me.

Once we were all in the hallway, Bakugo turned around and said, “Where the hell were you and what the hell happened to you?” he was oddly calm, and I just took a step back because of what I am used to happening to me after a question like that. “I’m not going to hit you, by the way you flinched earlier, something is wrong. I need you to tell me what happened.” He said.

I felt the wall against my back as I stood there. “U-um, I don’t want to talk about it right now…..not when someone could walk out and overhear everything. C-can we p-please talk about t-this after school? We, um, can talk about it in my d-dorm. P-please?” I said looking down at my feet.

I waited for him to yell at me, but he surprised me by saying, “Fine, I will be walking with you to your dorm after school. We can talk about what happened then. Is there anything you can tell me now?”

I thought for a moment before I said, “You know how I told you about the situation with my parents when we were 7?” They nodded their heads, so I continued. “I um, well, the situation got worse. I-I don’t really want to talk about anything until we get to the d-dorms or somewhere when it’s j-just us and no one can overhear us. C-can you wait that long?” I pleaded. I really hope that they understand I don’t want anyone to overhear what I say. I still can’t do anything about it.

“We will wait until after school in the dorms. I don’t know what happened since then, but for Kacchan to talk without yelling or cussing when he last said something, it’s quite serious. We can change into more comfortable cloths so that you are more comfortable. It could help you with your anxiety.” Midoriya said. I know I can’t get out of this, so I nodded my head since this is fine with me.

How he figured out I have anxiety, I have no idea, but I guess one look at how I act, and you can kind of tell. Bakugo glared at him but didn’t say anything. He then turned to me and said, “When we get in your dorm, you are going to tell me- I mean us, what the hell’s going on with your wings to. On a side note, it’s good to see you again.”

“C-can I hug you both? I missed you guys.” I asked a little doubtful since they would most likely say no. Midoriya opened his arms first, so I stepped towards him and hugged him.

After I pulled away from the hug, I turned to Bakugo who rolled his eyes before showing the smallest smile and opening his arms. I hugged him tight, and he did the same. “We missed you to Kii. You call me anything besides what you did before, I won’t listen to anything you have to say. Now let’s go, I don’t feel like being fuckin yelled at by Sonic for not being in the f*****g classroom.” Bakugo said as he pulled away and headed towards he classroom.

Bakugo opened the door and had Midoriya go in first making sure that I went in next then him. I kept my head down as I made my way to my seat. I tried to ignore the stares and whispers of the people in the classroom, but they still got in my head.

“If you extras keep staring and whispering, I will make sure that you never walk and talk for the rest of your lives, understand?” Bakugo said very calmly. For those of you that don’t know, if Bakugo is quiet or doesn’t cuss when saying something, either something is wrong, he’s serious, or he is beyond angry……well, more then he normally is.

Everyone immediately stopped staring at me and quit speaking. I looked up slowly over the classroom and saw that Shinso was trying to secretly get my attention, so he doesn’t get yelled at by Bakugo. He pointed at me then gave me a thumbs up mouthing the words, “You okay?” I just nodded my head and turned to get my noise canceling headphones out of my backpack since everyone started talking again when Bakugo and Midoriya sat down in their seats.

I put them on and sighed in content since I couldn’t hear anything anymore. I got a notebook out and started writing about anything that popped in my head. I didn’t notice what time it was until I felt someone tap my shoulder.

I quickly looked up to see Midoriya. He tapped his ear signaling to take the headphones off, so I did and put them back in the book bag as he said, “First period is over, next is All Might’s class at the training grounds. Come on, you don’t wanna be late.” He said with a little excitement.

I nodded my head and put my notebook away, then picked up my book bag and walked with everyone to the next class. Somehow along the way, Bakugo moved in front of me, Midoriya moved to my left, and Shinso stood to my right. It’s like I was boxed in.

Once we got to the training grounds, All Might came out and said, “Alright everyone, get into your Hero suits. I will explain what you are going to do when you come back.” Everyone headed to the locker rooms as well as me.

When filling out the application, I was asked to send in a Hero suit design. I hope everything turns out alright, if not, then I will deal with what they gave me. Once I found my locker, I opened it to find my Hero suit in there. I got undressed and started putting it on.

My Hero suit consisted of a very flexible pair of black jeans with tons of hidden pockets, a shirt with two holes in the back over my shoulder blades for my wings, which is also black, and a thick, black jacket with holes like the shirt as well as more hidden pockets. All my clothes are black and fire resistant including the fingerless gloves I had made with my suit. My suit also helps regulate my body temperature when it’s cold out. There’s more to the Hero suit but it would take too long to explain.

I saw people stare at my back, but I ignored them and continued what I was doing. As everyone started walking back, I put my jacket on and walked with them. Once everyone was there, All Might began explaining what we were going to do.

“Today, we are going to practice combat skills. I will divide you into teams of two, once you practice a bit, I will have you fight team versus team, so listen up for your partner! Team A: Iida and Uraraka, Team B: Bakugo and Aoyama, Team C: Tsuyu and Kouda, Team D: Ashido and Hagakure, Team E: Todoroki and Sato, Team F: Shinso and Sero, Team G: Ojiro and Mineta, Team H: Jiro and Kirishima, Team I: Tokoyami and Shouji, Team J: Akiyama and Kaminari, Team K: Midoriya and Momo. I noticed that we have two new students, if that is you, please raise your hand.” I raised my hand along with Shinso.

“Okay, well, welcome to UA, class 1-A. Now, form your teams and start practicing, for those of you partnered with the new students, find out something about them then start. Begin!” All Might said.

Everyone split off into their partners and Denki walked up to me and said, “Hey, you must be Akiyama right?” I nodded my head as a yes and he continued speaking, “Well, my name is Denki, my quirk is Electricity, I can emit and consume electricity. But if I use to much I become an i***t, so what exactly is your quirk again? I wasn’t really paying attention.”

I just stared at him. He looked around then back at me. I backed up a bit then said, “Demon-angel.” I waited once more for yelling to begin but nothing was heard.

“So, what exactly does that mean?” he asked me. I shook my head ignoring his question and asked him, “When can we start?” “When I find out something about you, so I will ask you a question. What is your favorite color?” He said. I stared at him before I answered with, “Black.” I don’t know what this guy wants but I will see where this goes. “Great, now that I know something about you, we can start training! I will start and you can counteract me, that okay?” I nodded my head as he got into a fighting stance.

I immediately took a few steps back and kept my hands in front of me. I kept my eyes on him waiting to see what he was gonna do. He started running at me and right before he could touch me, I moved to the side but kept my feet apart.

All I did was move my upper body and when he came at me, I made him trip. When he hit the ground, I walked away and tried not to get upset that he would probably be mad at me because of what I did and tried to keep silent.

He stood back up and came at me again, while I was planning on how to get him to stop, I remembered that his quirk was electricity. I don’t remember having any metal on me so he can’t use that when trying to land a hit on me.

As he fell once again, I ran away and stood straight. He got back up and motioned at me to initiate the fight. I took my right hand and held it out in front of me like I was grabbing something and raised it up. When my hand went up, black fire started to rise up from the floor like a wall of fire.

As I brought my hand towards to me, the fire came as well. I took my left hand and brought up another wall of fire. He hasn’t turned around, so he doesn’t quite know what is going on, he just keeps on looking at me confused.

As I get ready to bring the fire this way, I motion behind him so he can see what I am doing. When he turns around his eyes widen, and I bring the fire to surround him like he is in a dome. I had a lot of time to play with this part of my quirk so I can make my fire go on someone without it hurting them.

It took a while, but I got it and now I am glad I got it to work or else he would have been burnt to a crisp. I open a hole in the dome of fire and see him freaking out a little bit. Then he starts to realize that the fire isn’t hurting him, and he begins to relax a little. “Well done Young Akiyama! You can let Young Kaminari go now, it’s time to do team versus team battles.” All Might said as he walked over.

I walked over to the fire and put my hand through for Kaminari to grab. After a moment, he grabbed it, closed his eyes, and I pulled him a little signaling to walk forward. As he came out, I let go of his hand. He opened his eyes and said, “I’m not dead?” as he looked back at the fire. “No, it can’t harm you unless I want it to.” I told him.

He waved his hands threw it and was surprised when it didn’t burn. “I can still feel the heat coming off it though, that’s cool.” He said and smiled at me. I felt a little heat in my cheeks and looked away from him. I wasn’t used to people complementing me on my quirk or any part of it, it was a pleasant change for once.

I made the fire disappear and looked to All Might as I waited to see who we were going to fight against. “Alright, when I call your team, enter into the training ring so we can start our team versus team battles. First up is Team F versus Team H.” All Might said.

I looked around to see Shinso and a guy with black hair step into the ring on one side and on the other, a girl with short blackish purple hair and a guy with red spiky hair stepped in, honestly, with the way the guy smiled, he reminded me of a shark.

“The team who has both members still in the ring wins. If one member gets knocked out or steps outside the circle, that team loses. Good luck to all of you! Begin!” All Might said and so the battle began.

The guy with black hair Immediately started to try and trap the girl with ear-jacks in his tape or whatever it is he has, while Shinso asked the red-haired guy how the weather was. He was confused and told Shinso it was sunny, then his body went slack.

“Walk across the line.” Shinso said. The guy started to do just that. The girl tried to yell at him to turn around and stop walking, but he didn’t listen. Once he stepped over the line, he gained control of his body again and All Might said, “The winner is Team F, Congrats Shinso and Sero! Next team to fight is Team K and Team E, Get ready.”

Midoriya and a girl with black hair in a ponytail walked on the side Shinso did and on the other side, a guy with big lips and a guy with red and white hair stepped into the ring. I don’t know their quirks so I don’t know who will win, but I hope Midoriya, and the girl do. I saw all four of them get into fighting stances and noticed that the girl had a lot of exposed skin.

‘I wonder why she is showing so much of it.’ I shook my head and focused on the fight that was about to begin. Everyone, except for the four in the ring, looked to All Might as we waited for him to let them begin.

“You may start…………NOW!” All Might said and the fight began.

The guy with big lips started eating sugar as the guy with red and white hair put up a wall of ice. Midoriya broke through the ice as the girl with a ponytail started to pull something from her chest. As the guy with big lips started to run over to take down ponytail girl, she took, what I assume is a bag, and dumped its contents onto the floor.

The other two paid them no mind as they continued fighting. The guy with big lips came running too fast and couldn’t stop in time and started to slip and slide everywhere so he ended up sliding right over the line and couldn’t stop himself. And with that the fight was over.

All Might sprang up from where he was watching and declared, “Congratulations to the victors, young Midoriya and Yaoyorozu! Next up is Team J and Team B! Everyone, get ready!” “Oh s**t, we’re up against Bakugo and Aoyama.” Denki said from beside me.

We walked to our side of the ring and got ready to fight. “Knowing Bakugo, he is gonna wanna go all out in the beginning, be careful.” I told Denki. He looked over and nodded his head then looked back at the two in front of us on the other side of the ring. I just started getting nervous and started thinking about all the things that could go wrong. I started breathing faster until I felt a little shock.

I shook my head and looked at Denki. “You don’t need to be so nervous; I mean sure, Bakugo is probably going to blast us all the way to the moon, but we can have fun on the way. Aoyama has a laser that comes out of his belly button though, so be careful of that.” He told me. “I think we have a chance of winning because we are on the same team, if a chance happens, we can use both of our quirks on Bakugo and get him out….want to try it?” I ask him. He nods his head and gives me a thumbs up. I give a small smile in return and turn back to face Bakugo and who I guess is Aoyama.

Once All Might gave the signal, Bakugo blasted his way towards us with his explosions. Aoyama used his quirk, and it’s as flashy as he is. Once Bakugo got close enough, I had to be quick when dodging his hits, dodging my parents at home really helped me with this. He managed to punch my face and I ended up kicking him in his stomach making him fly across the ring. He caught himself before he could cross the line and came running forward again. I looked to Denki to see where he was at to see that he was running this way, away from Aoyama.

I noticed that Bakugo was fast approaching so I turned to Denki and yelled to him, “DENKI, LET’S DO IT NOW!” He nodded and rushed to my side. As we stood there, I charged up some of the ‘Angel’ half of my quirk.

With my ‘Angel’ side, I have something called ‘Pure.’ I can make white lightning come out of any part of my body and consume any if I choose to. It’s called ‘Pure’ because it’s white.

As me and Denki stood side by side, Bakugo kept getting closer and Aoyama started heading this way from the opposite end. I looked to Denki, and he looked as if he understood what I was planning. We stood back-to-back as the two kept getting closer and closer. “You give the signal, and we can fry them.” I nodded my head as I waited for the right moment. Just as they were about ten feet from us, I shouted, “Now!” and we both put our arms out and shot electricity through them at the other two.

A couple seconds later, we stopped emitting electricity and opened our eyes to see the both of them on the ground passed out. I turned to Denki with a smile on my face to see that he looked a little dazed. My smile dropped as I looked at him a little worried. “Are you okay?” “Yaaaayyyyyyyyy.” And a thumbs up was all I got from him.

“Congratulations, Akiyama and Kaminari! That was a fight to watch. Please bring young Bakugo and Aoyama to Recovery Girl. Uraraka, please help her. Next is Team C versus Team I. Get ready!” All Might said.

I looked at Denki and tried to get him to walk without falling but that didn’t work. A girl walked up to me and said, “Hi! My name is Ochaco Uraraka, I can help with Bakugo and Aoyama.” I nodded to her, and she walked over to Bakugo and touched him with her hand. Then he started to float.

She grabbed him before he could float away and did the same to Aoyama. I remember how it felt to fly before I had to hide my wings because of my parents. I miss that. “I like your quirk.” I told her. She smiled with a blush and said, “Thanks, let’s get to Recovery Girls office. Do you know the way?” I shook my head no, so she said, “Okay then, follow me and I can show you, it will come in handy to know where she is when you get hurt with Bakugo around.” And started walking.

I didn’t want Denki to keep falling so I picked him up and carried him the whole way. When we walked in, an old lady looked up from her desk and sighed. She pointed to the medical beds over to her right, so I set Denki down as Uraraka pulled the other two over the other beds and said, “Release.” with her hands pressed together. Then they fell on the bed.

The lady went over to them and kissed their cheek. I saw all of the cuts start to heal really quickly and soon enough, there were no cuts or bruises. The lady looked at me and said, “Another fight?” “Training, I think that Denki short-circuited. Will they be alright?” I asked her. “Your new here aren’t you? This is normal sweetheart. It’s nothing I’m not used to. They should wake up in a few moments, you can wait here if you want dearie. Did you get hurt?” She said.
