Chapter 3

Avery POV

One Year Later...

I stepped out of the plane and had finally returned home. They wind blew my soft brown hair as a warm ray of sun engulfed me - I was already enjoying California more than New York. 

I checked in and saw my family and friends waiting at the arrivals area with a huge sign that read out- 

'WELCOME BACK AVERY the b***h!' 

I laughed as I knew the only person who could've written that was Kyra. 

I gave my entire family a huge hug and gave Kyra a long tight hug and a kiss on the forehead. My eyes welled up at how much my baby sister had changed. Her dirty blonde hair was much longer and she looked more ladylike. 

I always felt closer to Kyra than anyone else, mostly because she was only a year younger than me and we could easily relate on many things. 

If your thinking that my parents did it a little to early and Kyra was an accident  then you’re wrong. My parents found Kyra as a pup when she was little abandoned in a forest near our pack house. 

"Hey Ave.." she said with tears in her eyes "I missed you so much," 

"Me too." I said, meaning it. 

We all got into 2 cars. Me, Hannah, Ashely, Chris and Joshua in one and my family in the other. 

"So you've changed a lot?" Hannah asked with a smile on her face. 

"Yeah I guess.." I replied.

It was true. My aunt helped me change my look completely. She gave me confidence and made me believe I was truly beautiful even though I thought I wasn't because of a certain someone.

 *cough cough* Ryder

She changed my style to wear nicer clothes and show of my "delicious body' and taught me how to do makeup and take care of my hair. 

Even though no amount of physical change could make up for the hurt I felt because of Ryder, now I knew I was confident enough to face him without crumbling due to a lack of self esteem.  

When we arrived home it was around 8:30 so my mum told me to freshen up and come down for dinner. I was so tired and jet-lagged but she wouldn't let me sleep until I had eaten.  

For dinner we had lasagne. I took a huge bite and moaned in delight as the flavours melted on my tongue. My aunt was a very bad cook so I normally ate takeout and instant meals all the time

"You have school tomorrow darling." my dad Informed.

"Can't wait." I muttered sarcastically.

I went to my room and lay on my bed and was knocked out. I didn't even bother to change I just fell in a deep sleep. 

My wonderful sleep was disturbed as the annoying ring of the alarm entered my ear drums. I groaned loudly as I got out of bed. I took a quick shower and then dried and styled my hair into two dutch braids. 

For clothes I wore a Nike cropped top, white skinny jeans and my white air forces. 

I looked in the mirror to do my makeup. I applied eyeliner and mascara and some cherry lip balm. I didn't really use skin makeup because I didn't need it. 

One year ago I didn't give a s**t about how I looked and now I'm doing my makeup! 

I wouldn't have believed this myself but I knew that inside I was the same insecure nerd that I'll always be. 

Hannah and Joshua came to pick me and Kyra up just like before and we made our way to school. 

"Wow Avery you really have changed!!" Joshua said. 

"You don't say.." I replied rolling my eyes. 

"Damn girl got attitude now huh?" Hannah commented on and I flashed her an innocent smile.

I walked to my new locker with Kyra to find the one person I was hoping had died. His fresh scent made me feel high even though I truly despised him. 

Ryder and his friends were having a conversation in front of my locker out of all places. 

"Ahem.." I cleared my throat to grab their attention. 

"Who's this sexy thing?" one of his friends said as he snaked his arm around my waist. "My name is Adrain and you are..?" he flirted.

"Not gonna talk to you." I said with a disgusted look on my face. 

"This one got attitude..Lemme show you how it's done" Ryder said as he cracked his knuckles and made his way towards me. 

"Don't even try it honey" I sassed as I pushed him away from me. 

"Avery?" Ryder said eyes wide with disbelief.

"In the flesh." I said gesturing to myself.  "Now move outta my way pups," I growled. 

The boys walked away and Ryder's face seethed with anger, because werewolves hate being called pups,  especially since he was the Alpha. 

He looked back but all I gave him was and innocent smile and a middle finger.   

"You got onto him!" Kyra said proudly as she gave me a high five. "I bet he regrets rejecting you now." 

Memories of my rejection ran through my mind as my eyes began to water. I blinked the tears away and remembered to stay strong. 

"Not soon enough to joke about it" she had an awkward look on her face "I'm sorry if i hurt your feelings.." She apologised

"Its ok," I smiled as we made our way to our first lesson - maths great way to start the year.

Ryder's POV

Me and my friends were talking when a hot new chick walked by. Damn she was sexy. But Adrien beat me to her. When he was trying to flirt I saw that she kept on rejecting him. 

As I made my way towards her a familiar scent of vanilla and roses entered my nostrils. 

"Avery?!" I asked, shocked at how different she became. 

"In the flesh," she said pointing to her sexy figure. "Now move outta my way pups!" she growled. I couldn't lie, she looked so sexy when she was mad. Too bad I rejected her.

My wolf was still mad at me for rejecting our mate but I couldn't help it back then she was so...different....but when I had realised my mistake I found out she had left California. She probably hates me now but I'm going to win her back.
