Rejected

Chapter 2

Avery POV

My eyes were full of tears and slowly began to drip down as my heart felt actual physical pain. 

Ryder had already left without even hearing my reply. As soon as his human side took over again he rejected me. 

I just collapsed. I fell to the ground and buried my face into my knees and wept my eyes out. My mate, the one person who was supposed to love and accept me has abandoned me. 

After my eyes ran out of water, I walked out of the janitor's closet, making sure my hoodie covered my face, and made my way to the bathroom. I looked in the mirror to see the girl that faced me. Bloodshot tear filled eyes and messy hair looked back at me. 

Obviously Ryder rejected me. I was nothing special. He was a s*x god whilst I was a plain insecure girl. All I had was rough brown hair and bland brown eyes. I splashed my face with cold water to try and reduce the redness and swelling of my eyes and went to my class. 

I stepped inside to maths class and took a seat in the only empty seat, right in the middle. 

"Why are you late?" my maths teacher asked. 

I mumbled "I'm sorry." and lay my head on the desk. Our school was a werewolf school and the teachers were a lot more understanding than normal.

"Are you okay?" Hannah mind-linked me, she was sitting a few seats behind me. 

"I'll tell you at lunch." mind-linked back. She gave me a nod and we both started our work. I could barely concentrate but it was I had to try and divert my attention otherwise I would just start crying again. 

After a few classes it was lunch time. Me, Hannah, her mate Chris, Joshua and Ashley sat down on our usual table. 

"What's wrong?" Joshua asked, with concern clear on his face, I'm guessing he could tell I had been crying. 

"I found my mate..." I whispered. Their faces lit up with excitement and joy. 

"Who is it?" Joshua asked.

"Is he hot?" Hannah eagerly asked, as Chris growled and put his arm around her waist possessively. She just giggled and pecked his cheek

"It's Ryder," I replied. The memories of what happened raced through my mind and I found my self in tears again. 

Why am I such a crybaby?

"I thought you had a crush on him, why are you crying?" Ashley asked.

"He rejected me..." I cried as I looked down to the ground.

"Aww it's okay babes," Hannah whispered in my ear as she got up gave me a comforting hug.   

"Yeah, he doesn't know what he's lost. Half the hoes here aren't nearly as good as you with the fake boobs and tiny skirts." Chris added. I gave out a small laugh and then my snotty nose made some weird sound.

"Well I'm gonna go get some food and eat my feelings." I laugh. 

After lunch me and Hannah made our way to our history class. When I walked in there first thing to bless my eyes is my mate, who rejected me, making out with the school slut, Britney.  

My heart shattered into a million pieces and my eyes welled up again. The feeling of rejection and loneliness clouded my thoughts and I mentally spaced out. 

He stared straight into my eyes and smirked before carrying on kissing Britney. 

I couldn't handle it. Not only did he reject me but rubbed it in my face about how I wasn't good enough for him to be with. 

Thankfully Hannah was there and she noticed my pain. She took me out the classroom and told the office lady I won't be in all day.  After driving me home I stepped in my house.

"SURPRISE!!!!" my entire family, Joshua, Ashley and Chris yelled. 

How did they get there? 

The house was decorated with balloons and I could see all the delicious food being cooked for me. Damn it was still my birthday I had forgotten. 

"Thanks guys..." I said sheepishly.

"Whats wrong do you not like it?" my brother Jacob asked. 

"No, no its great....I'm just not in the mood to party." I said sadly. 

"Whats wrong baby?" my mum asked with concern. 

I gave Hannah a knowing look, allowing her to explain.

"Avery-found-her-mate-but-then-he-rejected-her..." she said really quickly. 

"What?" My sister gasped. 

I just nodded. 

My mum and sister ran over and gave me a bear hug. I knew that my mum was tearing up but I couldn't blame her, nobody wants their kid to be rejected by their mate.  

"I'm so sorry baby.." my mum said. 

"Movies and ice cream?" my sister asked. I nodded and me, my sister, Ashley and Hannah made our way to my room. 

We all got comfy on my bed and with tubs of ice cream and a box of pizza. We binge watched romance movies which didn't really help my mood but it was ok. 

5 days later...

I've just been hanging in the house watching tv, sleeping and gaining weight. I didn't go to school since I didn't want to see Ryder's stupidly beautiful face. 

"Avery come downstairs please." my mum shouted. 

When I got downstairs I saw my entire family sitting on the dining table.

"Whats up guys?" I asked 

My dad had a serious expression on his face.

"Darling, me and your mum have decided to send you to New York to stay with your auntie Emma for a year." He said solemnly. 

"What? Why?" I asked.

"Because you are obviously very depressed and a break might help you." My mum added. 

"I am not depressed mother!" I retort.

"Really b***h, cause you've locked yourself in a room for the past 5 days." Kyra says sassily. 

"You guys don't understand, I was rejected. Rejected! If I wasn't upset that would be more concerning." I shout, my emotions getting the best of me. "The Moon Goddess - the creator of our universe - chose me to be with Ryder and even that's not good enough for him!" 

I was weeping now and my mum was about to as well. 

"This is why I want you to leave," my father said  "I can't see you like this and it's not good for you to see Ryder everyday at school and relive your pain again and again."

"ugh" I scoff  "When do I leave??" 

"In an hour." 

"But then I can't pack!" 

"Emma has everything ready for you. She thinks you need to change up your style, apparently it's a good coping mechanism." My mum has a tearful smile.  

Aunt Emma was also rejected by her mate, but she took the rejection well (unlike me) and turned her life around. 

I guess it wouldn't hurt to get some advice from her. 

"ok ok fine" I say as i put my hands up in surrender "But what about school?"

"You've already been accepted into a good high school there."

"Can I say bye to everyone then?" I ask, hoping that decision hasn't been taken away from me either. 

"Joshua, Hannah and Ashley are on their way." 

When everyone gets to my house I give tight hugs of goodbye. Everyone, even Joshua, is crying. 

"I'll miss you all," I give one last smile before heading into the taxi. The cab ride was long and tedious but I soon got to the airport. 

After a long flight I finally get off the plane. I was so tired but excited for a new start
