Part five 5.1When he was returning to the monastery Ted felt as if he were coming back home. It was incredible how close he had become to this secluded, quiet place in the Alps. The sight of the monastery buildings was a relief; the whole trip to Barbados – the heat, the sea, the shooting, the dead bodies and the brutal truth revealed by Veronica – all that seemed so remote that he could actually believe it never happened. In the golden light of the evening sun the monastery seemed the only true thing, as if the rest of the world was just its theatrical scenography.
