Rise of the Broken Luna

Fawn POV It's still surreal even a year after our mating that the goddess chose me to be Seth's mate. I know many pack members still don't agree with him accepting an omega, but he insisted he wouldn't discard the goddess's gift. I wasn't sure what to expect, but he has been an amazing mate. He had never looked down on me or treated me as less than. He is sweet and kind. He never makes me feel like I'm not good enough. In fact, he tells me every day how lucky he is to have me as his mate. He had a meeting early this morning, so I woke up alone. I've become so accustomed to him being here when I open my eyes I hate it when he's not. I slide out of bed and step into our large bathroom. I smile when I see the evidence of our love making on my skin. I step into the shower and let the hot water soothe my sore muscles. Between training and Seth's s*xual appetite, my body is definitely not used to the vigorous activity. I giggle as I wash my hair. I reach for the soap on the high shelf when a pain rips through my belly. Juniper whimpers and then growls. We still haven't shifted, but she told me the goddess had a plan, and we would know when it was time. Most of the pack, including Seth, think I am wolfless. "Fawn, I need you to get dressed. We need to go to Seth right now," she says. "Juniper, what's happening? Why do I feel like I'm being torn apart?" "I wish I could protect you, sweet girl, but I can't. Seth is being unfaithful," she says. A torrent of emotions rolls through me as the pain dulls. "He wouldn't, he loves me." "I wish it weren't true, Fawn, but I promise you that is the pain of infidelity. I don't know why he would do this to you, but I promise you I'm right," she says. I mindlessly get out of the shower and quickly dress. Once my hair is braided, I slide my feet into a pair of ballet flats. I take a few deep breaths before I push the door to our room open. I'm shocked to find Seth reaching for the door handle. "Fawn, what's wrong? I could feel your sadness through our bond." Before I can answer him, a wave of nausea has me sprinting toward the bathroom. I fall to my knees in front of the toilet and empty my stomach. Large hands rub my back and, for the first time since Juniper first talked to me, I wonder if she is wrong. Once I stop retching, Seth picks me up and sets me on the vanity. He grabs a wash cloth and wipes my lips. Everything in me wants to believe these are the actions of a man that loves me. How could it not be? "Fawn, I know you want to believe him, but I promise you I'm right. I don't want to be, but I am. We have to protect our pup," she says. Suddenly I feel like I can't breathe. Spots dot my vision and the room around me turns black. I'm not sure how much time passes until I can hear voices around me. "Alpha, you can't be serious. This is your pup we are talking about. Your flesh and blood. She is your Luna. Your goddess given mate," the deep male voice says. "I am giving you an order. I love Fawn but no pup she gives me will be strong enough to lead this pack. She will be my Luna until I take my last breath, but she will never have my pup. Get rid of it. She is never to even know she was pregnant. In fact, you will make it so she won't ever get pregnant again. Am I clear, Dr. Evans," he says. My heart shatters as I listen to the man that professed to love me give an order to kill my pup. I try to keep my breathing even. I can't let him know I heard everything. "I've already found a proper woman to carry our pups. She will be my mistress and give me a proper heir. Fawn will be the pups' mother. She will never know the pup is biologically mine. Only myself, my father, and the elders will know they are the true heir of the Fire Moon Pack." "Alpha, I can't," the doctor starts to say, but Seth cuts him off. "You can and you will. Derek Evans, you will never speak about anything I just told you. You will follow my orders," Seth says, using his alpha command. "Alpha, what about the pain of betrayal. She will feel it," the doctor says. Seth laughs and everything I felt for him completely shatters. "She is an omega born without a wolf. She will never feel the pain and even if she does, she loves me. She has no choice but to accept the way things have to be. She is my Luna and mate. I am Alpha. I have to think about the pack. It's not like I'm casting her aside. I accepted her. I love Fawn. My mistress has agreed not to make trouble, and she knows the consequences if Fawn finds out. I feel nothing for her. She is simply a vessel to carry my pup," he says. After a few seconds, I decide to let them know I'm awake. The sooner I get out of here, the sooner I can figure out what to do next. I groan, and before my eyes can open a hand grasps mine. The tingles that once made me feel special make me feel nothing but sick. I force my eyes open and come face to face with Seth's look of concern. "Baby, you scared the hell out of me. Don't ever do that again. How are you feeling," he asks. "What happened?" "You passed out. You've been doing too much. You need to rest. Dr. Evans said that everything was fine. He is going to give you some medicine that will help you with the fatigue," he says. I look past him at Dr. Evans. He simply nods before he turns and leaves. Seth scoops me up without warning. "I'm taking you back to our room to rest. I'll spend the rest of the day with you and make sure you actually rest," he says before pressing a kiss on my forehead. I fight the urge to wipe it away. His touch is making my skin crawl, but I force myself to lay my head against his chest. When we finally step into the pack house, the chatter immediately dies down. I'm sure the pack members are wondering what happened. "Alpha, is everything alright?" My heart starts to beat faster when I realize the voice is Anna's. She is a warrior that I consider a friend. Is she the warrior he has been f**king? I pick up my head, my eyes meeting hers. The concern in her eyes looks genuine, but up until an hour ago, I thought Seth loved me. "I'm sure it's nothing Anna. The Luna was born an omega after all. She probably just over exerted herself with her training," says a voice from behind us. Seth growls and whirls around. Gabriella immediately bares her neck. "She is your Luna, chosen by the goddess herself. How dare you imply she is weak? Know your place, Gabriella," Seth grits out. Anger radiating off him in waves. "I apologize, Alpha," she says, clear hurt in her eyes. In my heart I know she is the one he has chosen to bear his pups. I fight the tears that threaten to fall. He must feel it through our bond because his next growl nearly shakes the walls. "If you ever disrespect my Luna again, I will banish you. There will be no second chance," he says. She falls to her knees at his feet. "I'm sorry, Alpha, I'll never disrespect the Luna again," she says. It's not lost on me that she never actually apologized to me. He turns without another word and heads for the stairs that lead to our floor. As soon as we reach our room, he throws the door open and lays me gently on our bed. My body stiffens as I wonder if they have been together in the same bed he has shared with me for the last year. "Fawn, what's wrong? Are you in pain," he asks. "No," I manage to say, the emotion in my voice betraying me. "I'm sorry Fawn. I've been a terrible mate. I should have seen how hard you've been working to prove yourself. I know my mother has been pushing you to take over your Luna duties completely, but you never had the proper training. You have done so well. Please don't let them get to you. I am blessed to have you as my mate," he says. I nod because I don't trust what I'll say. Every word from his mouth is a lie. A solid knock on our door has him growling again. He stalks toward the door, clearly irritated with whoever is on the other side. When he throws the door open, his parents are standing there like we conjured them. "Seth, how is Fawn," they ask. "She is fine. She needs to rest. She has been doing too much," he says, looking at his mother. Luna Amara rushes in and comes to sit next to me. "I'm sorry Fawn. I shouldn't have pushed you so hard. You have been doing so well, I just thought you were ready," she says. "It's fine." She looks confused by my coldness, but she shouldn't. I know if Alpha Edward knows that Seth is betraying me, then so does she. "Mother, she needs her rest. Besides, she is upset that one of the female warriors was disrespectful," he says. "Which warrior," Edward asks, anger clear in his tone. "Gabriella Montone. She insinuated that Fawn was weak. I made sure that she knew her place," he says. Edward nods his agreement, but it's Amara reaction that confirms my suspicion. Her posture stiffens before she pats my hand. "Don't let those that are beneath you make you feel anything less than the Luna you are Fawn," she says. I fight the urge to roll my eyes. "Alright, she needs to rest. Dad, I'll meet you in my office in an hour. There are things we need to discuss," Seth says. "Do you want me to stay with Fawn," Amara asks. "No, I want to be alone. I just want to sleep," I blurt out before he can answer. "Of course, we will leave. I'll check on you later," she says before pressing a kiss on my forehead. Goddess, I'm going to need another shower after they leave.
