6 What You Deserve

Fawn POV When the door clicks open, I try not to stiffen. I had hoped he would leave for a while. Hell I hoped he wouldn't return at all but I knew that was wishful thinking. I know the plan is not to leave until tonight so we can use the cover of night, but I can't stand the thought of spending another minute pretending that Seth is anything but a cheating, lying, ba**ard. "It's me Fawn," Derek says. I open my eyes, and he smiles down at me. "I wasn't expecting to see you this early," he says as he sits in the chair next to my bed. "He tried to touch me," I blurt out. Derek's eyes darken as his eyes never leave mine. I still don't understand why he is being so protective of me, but I'm grateful. I'm just about to thank him again when pain ripples through my belly. Juniper growls, and the pain dulls. She is again protecting our pup from the pain. "What's wrong, Fawn," Derek asks, concern clearly in his voice. "He is f**king her again. Juniper is taking the pain for me and our pup." Derek growls, his wolf clearly at the surface. "I can't wait to tell my parents what a piece of sh*t he is. I'm sorry he is doing this to you, Fawn. You don't deserve it. Hell no one does," he says. He's sweet, but it doesn't matter who he tells. Seth is an alpha born of a strong bloodline. Our pack has been around for hundreds of years. He is pretty much untouchable. No other alpha is going to go against him for me, a woman born of omega blood. The only thing that matters now is getting as far away from Seth and this pack as possible. After a few minutes, the dull ache fades completely. I feel Juniper relax, but she is exhausted. I can't keep letting her endure such suffering, but how the hell can I stop it? As long as we are bonded to that b**ard, we will feel it every time he screws his wh*re. "Hey tell me what your thinking about, Fawn," Derek says, bringing me out of my thoughts. "Juniper is protecting me and our pup but at the cost of herself. I know rejecting him will make it harder for us to escape, but how can I expect her to continue to suffer?" He reaches out and takes my hand in his. "The farther we get from this place, the less the bond will affect you both. Mates aren't meant to be apart. She might feel a dull pain once we reach my pack, but it will be nothing like it is now," he says. "How do you know that for sure?" Has he found his mate? Did they do the same to him? He offers me a sad smile. "Let's just say there is a reason besides it being the right thing to do that I'm compelled to help you. We don't have time right now for that story but someday I'll tell you everything, Fawn. My wolf and I trust you and that hasn't happened in a very long time," he says. "Thank you, Derek, for helping me and for trusting me. I'm not sure what would have happened if you didn't." He squeezes my hand before he releases it. "I really want you to try to rest Fawn. Shifting takes a lot out of us in the best of conditions. You will have to shift and run for a very long time. I suspect we will have to rest before we reach my home," he says. I'm just about to ask him where his home is when the door to the room creaks open. My eyes slam shut as Derek gets to his feet. "She hasn't woken up, Alpha," he says. "That's good. Has she begun to bleed? How long will it take before the pup is gone," he asks. I didn't think my heart could break anymore than it had, but what he just said proved me wrong. I thought he at least had an ounce of regret for destroying our lives, but this moment proves he doesn't. "I haven't checked her Alpha. She needs to rest. If we see she is bleeding, we will clean her up before she knows it even happened. I'll be back in an hour to give her more medicine for the pain," he says. When the door clicks closed again, I try not to panic that I'm alone with Seth again. Not because I think he will try to touch me, but just being this close to him has the anger that I've been trying to contain roar to life. "I'm so sorry, Fawn. I wish things could have been different. I really do love you, but I need to ensure our pup is worthy of becoming alpha of our pack. Baron and I hate every minute of touching a she-wolf that isn't you. I need you to know that I hate her. No, I loathe her. She is suffering for taking what is only meant to be yours, I promise you. She means nothing to me. You are the only woman I love," he whispers. Every word he says makes the hate I feel for him only intensify. Seth POV Watching the woman I love lying in a hospital bed and knowing it's because of me is a hard pill to swallow. I have to keep telling myself that it's for the greater good of the pack. That what's happening doesn't change how I feel for Fawn and that she will never learn the truth. Goddess, I pray I'm right. True to his word, Evans comes in every few hours and gives Fawn another shot. Just as my eyes are starting to get heavy, I feel someone nudge my link. What the hell could they possibly need? "What," I growl through the link. "Son, there are rogues at the western border this time. Five of them standing shoulder to shoulder," my father says. "What the hell is going on? Why are they here again? What could they possibly want? They are no match for our pack or any for that matter." "I'm not sure, son. The patrol guards said they weren't making any move to step into the territory, but we need to make sure they know, as Alpha, you won't tolerate their presence anywhere near our pack." "You know that I'm with Fawn at the hospital, dad. She needs me right now. Let the guards handle them." "No, it's your responsibility. Pack comes before everything else. Besides, from what you said, she is sleeping comfortably. Evans will make sure she is fine while you are gone. Hopefully you will deal with them and be back before she even opens her eyes," he says. "Fine," I say, and cut the link. I'm getting very tired of his interference with how I run the pack and my relationship with Fawn. "Too bad you didn't think about that before you agreed to f**k that sl*t" Baron says. "Enough, Baron," I say as we make our way outside the pack hospital. As soon as the night air touches my skin, we shift. For a few minutes, as we run, I focus on the feeling of freedom as wind rushes through our fur. Approaching the western border, I see the wolves still standing just outside the territory. They are like statues. If not for their rise and fall of their chests, I would think that's exactly what they were with how still they are. I move to stand in front of my guards and shift. "Why are you here?" The largest of the group steps forward and shifts. He is as big as I am, and his scent is nothing like a rogue. In fact, he has no scent at all. "We are here to ensure that you get exactly what you deserve, Alpha Seth of the Fire Moon Pack," he says. His eyes never leave mine. I release my aura, but it has no effect on him. Irritation at having to leave my mate is quickly morphing into anger. "What exactly is it that you think I deserve wolf," I ask through gritted teeth. "To lose everything," he says. I growl and Baron pushes to the surface. "That will never happen. I suggest if you want to keep breathing, you leave my pack and never return." "We absolutely will, but not until you've lost the one thing that never should have been given to a pathetic wolf like you. Don't worry, it won't take long," he says smugly. My heart starts to slam against my chest. He is talking about Fawn. Why the hell would he be talking about my mate? It's alright, she is safe. Before I can stop him, Baron takes control. We shift and so does the wolf. Despite me being an alpha, the ba**ard seems stronger. Who the f**k are these wolves? Baron is pissed when we are knocked to the ground before the wolves take off running. F**king cowards, he growls. We shift back and so do the guards. As soon as I realize one of them is Gabriella, I growl again. "Why the f**k are you here? You are assigned to the southern border." She drops her gaze to the ground. "Anna asked me to switch assignments with her Alpha. She wanted to be close to the hospital so she could check on the Luna. She considers her a friend," she says. I'm not sure why, but a feeling of dread rushes through me. Without another word, I shift and taking off toward the pack hospital. She is fine. Evans wouldn't let anything happen to her. Besides, Anna wouldn't do anything to betray me. She is a loyal warrior. Why would she? She has no idea what I've done. "What if that wh*re told her? What if Fawn knows," Baron asks. He starts to push harder for us to reach the hospital. As soon as I reach the doors, I shift. I don't even bother to look for a pair of shorts to put on. I push open the doors and rush down the hallway. I take a deep breath and push open the door to Fawn's room. I roar as soon as I step into the room. She is gone.
