Chapter 1 ( A girl from 7 years ago)
*Chapter 1: The Girl at Whiskers & Whispers* Main character (female) : Name Eva Hayes. She 23 years smart intelligent, smart, beautiful and kind. She is a topper of her grade. A student at a university. She is the illegitimate child. Best friend with Mia. She is the owner of cat cafe. Main character (male) Name Adrian Blackwood. He is 26 years old. Billionaire CEO of a multinational companies. If you mess with him you are gone. He is ruthless, cold hearted but soft to the people he loves and trust. His Assistant named Chris. **** At 5:40 am,Hayes mansion. Eva got ready and went to kitchen to drink water and leave for cat cafe. As she was drinking water his thrid stepbrother who came out of the gym, through a grape to her head Eva looked at him. Caleb said hey miss illegitimate there's our leftover food from last night in the fridge. As maids didn't took it you can eat that. So people won't think we mistreat you. Eva rolled her eyes and went out saying to herself soon Eva soon. When Eva arrived at 6:03 AM, The eviction notice was taped to the glass door. _48 hours. Vacate or face legal action. – Blackwood Holdings._ Her stomach dropped. She ripped it off before Mia could see. The bell above _Whiskers & Whispers_ jingled at 6:20 AM, sharp and cheerful against the quiet street. “Morning, Mr. Patel! Black coffee, no sugar, right?” Eva slid the cup across the counter with a smile that felt automatic by now. The old man chuckled, taking the cup with both hands. “You remember better than my own wife, kid. Thanks, Eva.” She knew all the regulars. Students with laptops, retirees with newspapers, freelancers nursing their third refill—all of them looked up when she passed. That was Eva with everyone else: bright, kind, a little teasing, always remembering the small things. No one would guess she went home to a house where she didn’t exist. Her father, Richard Hayes, CEO of Hayes Logistics, kept her there for appearances. Her stepmother Vivian smiled for cameras and ignored her at dinner. Her three stepbrothers—Marcus, Dylan, and Caleb—treated her like air unless they needed someone to blame. Eva’s mother had died when she was two years old. Her family didn’t give her any money. They let her stay in the east wing to keep up appearances, but every other expense was hers to handle. That was why she worked at Whiskers & Whispers—earning money for daily expenses, bus fare, and books. Luckily, she had a full scholarship. She’d been the top of her class every year since high school, and Stanford hadn’t hesitated to offer her a place. Without it, she’d never have made it this far. She didn’t fight her family. She just stayed silent. Invisible. At the mansion, she ate in her room, used the servants’ entrance, and kept her head down. The servants were kinder than the family. Old Mrs. Lin always left an extra muffin outside her door. Jake, the gardener, bring her sweets without being asked. But outside those walls, Eva was different. At 7:45 AM, her phone buzzed. _Professor Lin: Eva, your research paper is the best in the department again. Dean wants to meet about the research grant._ Eva grinned, her cheeks pink as she typed back a quick _Thank you, Professor!_I'll be there tomorrow. before tucking the phone away. Eva laughed. That was her life—work, study, and being the girl everyone liked except the people she lived with. Between classes, she wiped tables and chatted with customers who treated her like family. Luna the Persian cat followed her everywhere. For six hours a day, Whiskers & Whispers wasn’t just a job. It was the one place where she mattered. --- At 11:50 AM, the lunch rush hit. Orders piled up, and Eva moved through it like she’d been born behind a counter. She was in the middle of explaining to a first-time customer how to hold Mochi the Maine Coon when Mia’s voice cut through the noise. “Eva! Storage room. We’re out of oat milk.” “On it!” Eva ducked behind the swinging door and disappeared into the back. --- At 12:30 PM, Adrian entered the café while Eva was still in the storage room, so they didn’t meet there. Adrian’s assistant, Chris, stepped forward in a tailored suit, his expression polite but firm. He didn’t sit. He didn’t order. “Ms. Carter,” Chris said, nodding toward Mia. “I’m Chris Bennett, Mr. Adrian Blackwood’s executive assistant. We recently acquired the property next door, and we’re extending the offer to purchase Whiskers & Whispers as well.” Mia froze, wiping her hands on her apron. “Buy it? This place has been here for twelve years. My mother opened it.—it’s mine.” Chris’s voice remained even, professional. “Mr. Blackwood admires the location. It fits his expansion plans for the plaza. We’re prepared to offer well above market value. You’d have 48 hours to decide.” Mia’s jaw tightened. “And if I say no?” Chris hesitated for half a second before continuing. “Then legal proceedings will begin for redevelopment. Eminent domain isn’t ideal for either of us, but Mr. Blackwood doesn’t leave projects unfinished. You know how it works, Ms. Carter. When he decides on a location, the block changes around him.” The threat hung in the air, cold and precise. Mia knew who Adrian Blackwood was. Everyone in the city did. He was twenty-six, self-made, and ruthless about expansion. Restaurants, bookshops, old galleries—if it was in the way, it was gone. She swallowed hard, her eyes flicking to the photos on the wall. Her mother, father and laughing, cutting the ribbon on opening day. The first cat they’d rescued, sleeping in a cardboard box behind the counter. “I need time,” Mia said finally, her voice barely above a whisper. Chris nodded once. “Two days, Ms. Carter. Use them wisely. We’ll be in touch.” He placed a card on the counter and stepped back. Adrian stood by the door the entire time, silent, hands in his pockets, watching everything with quiet intensity. His bodyguards flanked him, expressionless. As Adrian, his bodyguards, and Chris left the café, the door clicked shut behind them with a finality that made Mia’s hands shake. For a long moment, no one spoke. The café felt too quiet, even with the cats purring in the corners. Eva returned from the storage room, arms full of oat milk cartons. “Why’s everyone quiet? Did we run out of coffee beans?” Mia looked up, eyes red. She set the carton down and pulled Eva aside, voice low and shaky. She told her everything—about the offer, the 48-hour deadline, the threat of legal action. Eva listened without interrupting. Eva internal thought: _“If they take this place, where do I go when Stanford breaks for winter?”_ her knuckles went white around the edge of the counter. “Two days?” Eva said, her voice low. “They think they can just buy us out because we don’t have a lawyer on speed dial?” Mia said. “Eva , he’s Adrian Blackwood. If he wants this place, he’ll get it. I’ve seen it happen before.” Eva’s face flushed with anger. She set the oat milk down with a thud that made Luna jump. “Then he hasn’t met me yet.” She rushed out to the parking lot behind the café. It was small, cracked asphalt and faded lines. Only one car sat there—long, black, tinted windows that hid everything inside. Eva marched up and knocked hard on the driver’s side window. Adrian was surprised to see her and rolled the window down slowly. Eva said angrily, “What do you think? That having a little bit of money makes you superior? Hey, mister, whoever you are—get lost, and don’t ever look at our cat café with your dirty thoughts.” Chris and the bodyguards moved to step in, but Adrian lifted a hand. They stopped immediately. Eva didn’t notice. Adrian was looking at her like nothing else mattered. Like the parking lot, the bodyguards, the deal—all of it had faded into background noise. Eva kept speaking, her voice sharp and fast. “Do you know how many people come here because this place is safe? Because the cats know when someone’s had a bad day? You can’t put a price on that!” He barely heard her. He was too busy watching the way her eyes flashed, the way her hands clenched at her sides, the way her anger made her look alive in a way no one in his boardrooms ever did. “Do you understand?” she said, stepping closer. Adrian came to his senses and shook his head and said quietly, “Yes. Yes. I understood .” Eva blinked, thrown off by the answer. “Good,” she replied, still frowning. She turned and went back inside without waiting for another word. Adrian exhaled and leaned back against the leather seat, a slow smile forming. He turned to Chris. “She’s the one. She’s the one.” Chris was stunned and turned in the back seat. “You’re sure, Mr. Blackwood? She is the one from that night. ” “I’m sure,” Adrian said. His voice was quiet, certain. “Yeah. How could I forget her? Find out everything about her. I need her full report at my desk tonight.” Chris nodded, already pulling out his phone. “Understood. I’ll have a full report by 6 PM.” Adrian’s gaze stayed on the café door long after it had closed. For the first time in years, something felt worth chasing that had nothing to do with money, power, or control. --- *[End Chapter 1]* ---
