Prologue
Life is full of moments that will somehow change our lives, be for better or for worse, but either way we must accept that as a fact for no matter what you do you cannot stop those moments from happening. That was something that Henry never considered as he was used to be alone and his mood was usually as sour as a lime, but that did not stop what was going to happen to him at the nursing home.
Odette ‘Oddie’ Beaulieu, was a very charming and happy 26-year-old interior designer who worked for a very well-known architecture and designing company in Vancouver, British Columbia. Single and living only with a 9-year-old boy. She knows how to manage her schedule to maintain a good job, a pretty cottage-like house near the woods, raise a child and have a social life, but somehow, she feels empty like there’s something else she needs to do.
So, out of nowhere she signs into a Companionship for Elders program from the Nursing Home where she meets grumpy as hell Mr. Henry Cloutier, who happily ditches her the moment he meets her but never considering that she is a hard working woman who is not used to give up on something without giving a fight.
As the six-month program goes by they both come to know different things from each other and maybe a little bit from their past and the reason why she’s the one raising a child at such a young age. Accompany this amusing yet complicated adventure between an old retired military man who has been alone for more than 20 years and a cheerful young woman who’s willing to do anything in her power to become the friend he needs, both without noticing of how much of each-others help is needed: for him to learn how to be social and smile again and for her to open her heart once more to love.
“You are the weirdest yet most enticing woman I have ever met and goodness as stubborn as a mule.”
“I know that.”
“Why are you really here?”
“Because I am the friend you needed.”
