Chapter 8: The world of magic

The word 'magic' has been around for thousands of years. However, in a world where humans coexisted with other creatures, magic did not exist at first.

It was only one day, when humans found themselves in a difficult situation, that a group of people specialised in the study of the supernatural appeared and the existence of magic was discovered.

As soon as these nervous types entered the fray, the situation for the humans changed dramatically, and they were able to defeat one of their mortal enemies, the ogres, with overwhelming force.

Before that, the humans had always been at a disadvantage, and the appearance of this group of people was truly inspiring. Since then, they have been called magic users. They were hailed as heroes, and their deeds were sung of.

Unfortunately, the weak but strong humans did not have much time to rejoice, as powerful race creatures caught up with them within a few years, and a wide variety of race creatures also learned magic.

The situation for the humans became increasingly dire. There were too few people who could become mages, and they could hardly cope with the army of tens of thousands of monsters. In the end, the magi had no choice but to make a decision and spread the use of magic to all humans!

Unfortunately, not everyone can learn magic. The hidden requirements are extremely high, and ordinary people simply cannot practise magic.

If it is classified according to the actual power and effect of the magic, it is divided into ten levels, and this classification is the most widely accepted in the magic world. This is how it is divided, but mankind has never had a true apex figure.

As for the skills defined by the Adventurers' Guild, they are established methods that have been widely used for the past two hundred years. Skills are actually magic, an extended application of magic. These magics are relatively fixed and have relatively simple modes of operation.

That is why this type of magic is so popular. Ordinary people can also acquire skills through specific training, although there are limits to the quantity and quality of skills they can acquire.

The three magical objects Jarro and his party encountered were slightly smaller in size, with large black eyes and a translucent, watery blue body. They were hard to see, thanks to the forest that provided cover. They were called slimes, and they were the target of Jarro and his party's mission.

They didn't want to attack humans and would have continued to play in the forest if no one had disturbed them. But when Jarro and the others appeared, they lost their sense of territoriality and had no time to relax.

Slimes are water-based monsters, and fire magic does minimal damage to them. But Jarro's Black Flame technique is no ordinary fire magic. The slime hiding in the tree was unlucky, and the black flame engulfed it before it could react.

Just as it was about to look up and see the slime's true face, a feeling of powerlessness washed over it. Everyone else around it was on guard, and no one could detect Jaro's abnormality at first. No one noticed until the monsters launched an all-out attack.

There were three slime hiding in the area. Jarro had destroyed one, leaving two. When the other two slimes saw their companion die, they were furious!

After all, they were relatively simple monsters with relatively simple minds. Seeing that the human was still in their line of sight, they unconsciously followed their instincts and destroyed the intruder in their territory.

Two balls of poison hit Xial and the seemingly weakest, Honglian. Of course, if it were an ordinary shield, it would be difficult to resist the poison's corrosion.

The shield in Char's hands is standard equipment that the Warrior Guild provides to newcomers. It can withstand the poison attacks of many common monsters. For this reason, Char is able to remain calm even when facing combat for the first time.

However, Honglian had no shield to protect her, and her instinctive awareness allowed her to avoid the deadly venomous attack. Perhaps this had something to do with her past, but now she and everyone else (except Jaro) had forgotten their past, so she considered it a prerequisite for assassins to fire.

Although everyone except Xiu had learned the most basic skills and magic, unfortunately they knew nothing about power, and that included Jaro.

Red Lotus had learned two skills from the Assassin's Guild: Backstab and Assault. Backstab requires a dagger, while Assault requires a short sword.

When she dodged a fatal blow, she was eager to show off and decided to use Assault. However, she had not yet regained her footing and rushed the skill, causing the short sword to glow red and interrupting the skill.

The whole process took only a few seconds. By the time Xiu and Alice reacted, the entire party was trapped between the two slimes.

Honglian's hands were numb from the improper use of her skill, but fortunately, with Alice by her side, she would be safe for the time being. As team leader, Xiu guarded against the slime that looked most threatening.

At that moment, someone finally noticed Jaro's situation. Xial rushed over to him, "Jaro, are you all right? You didn't get any of that nasty poison, did you?
