I let out an awkward laugh and sipped my wine in a hurry. A bit too embarrassed to face me right now, Ruby looked in the direction of the toilet and asked, “What’s taking Rose so long? She should be back by now.”
She tried to stand up, but I put a hand on her shoulder and said smilingly, “I’ll go. I could use the restroom anyway.”
She nodded. “Okay. Come back soon.”
I rose to my feet and walked to the other side of the hallway. It was getting pretty late at this point; the time where nightlife was at its peak. The bar was so crowded that one had to squeeze through throngs of bodies to get anywhere. It certainly took more effort than I would have imagined just to get across the lobby.
