Third Person POV
Elise woke up to the sound of her alarm clock, feeling groggy and nauseous.
She reached for her phone and turned it off, then rubbed her eyes and looked at the calendar.
It was the day of her first ultrasound.
She felt a mix of excitement and dread as she remembered that she was pregnant with the Lycan king’s child.
She wondered if he ever thought about her, or if he even knew that he had a son or a daughter growing inside her.
She quickly brushed off the thought and got out of bed, slipping into her comfy flip flops. She made her way to the bathroom to get ready for the big day.
Aunt Lisa pressed her ear against Elise’s door, trying to listen to see if she had gotten up from bed. Once she confirmed that Elise had gone into the bathroom, she quickly ran into her husband’s room.
“Good, now I’m sure the girl can’t hear us,” she said, shutting the door behind her.
“Oh, don’t tell me you want to start with this again,” her husband, uncle Mark, rolled his eyes in frustration.
“Of course I will start with this again! It’s been one month since we gave her the pills! We need to do something about that!” she snapped in annoyance, glaring expectantly at her husband who seemed bored and annoyed by her countenance.
“I’ve told you! We can’t keep giving her wolfsbane because now she has a baby growing inside her. It would kill her and kill her baby!” he tried to convince aunt Lisa, but she wasn’t having it.
“Then make her abort the child!” she snapped, making uncle Mark widen his eyes at the sudden wickedness of his wife.
He knew he married a woman who was daring and impulsive sometimes, but he was surprised as to when she grew that heartless.
“What?! Don’t look at me like that! You know how important it is to us that she doesn’t wolf out. I’m getting scared that one day, her pregnancy hormones would fill her up with negative emotions and she will wolf out!” she said, panic written all over her face.
“I know that. But don’t you think it’s high time we stopped this and allowed the girl to grow?” uncle Mark said calmly, as aunt Lisa groaned in frustration.
“No, no, no, Mark. You know how important it is to us to keep her at bay! Her parents! They were the strongest in their days. If we allow her to wolf out, we would lose all power and people would start to mock us and disregard us! Don’t forget that she’s the chosen one, but she doesn’t know that yet!” aunt Lisa said with terror in her voice, but uncle Mark didn’t seem to understand her obsession for retaining power.
Ever since they took her in, aunt Lisa tried everything possible to make sure Elise didn’t wolf out, because of jealousy. She was always jealous of her sister, Ruby, who was Elise’s mother, for getting mated to her boyfriend, Dan, at that time.
Elise’s mother had no idea it would be him and certainly never intended to accept him as her mate. But as fate would have it, Dan broke up with Lisa and accepted Ruby as his mate.
It broke Lisa and she vowed to have her revenge. When they died and Elise was put in her care, she was ecstatic and even more excited that Elise didn’t have her wolf yet, and she made sure that she didn’t.
Aunt Lisa snuck wolfsbane into Elise’s meal every single day to hinder her from wolfing out. But trouble lurked as Elise hadn’t taken her pills that contained wolfsbane in a month, due to her pregnancy.
“So this is what has been going on under my nose!” Elise, who had been eavesdropping on their conversation, finally burst into the room, her face covered in tears.
Uncle Mark acted unbothered as aunt Lisa bit her nails nervously. Elise felt betrayed as she glared at her aunt with disgust.
“Elise…” aunt Lisa stepped forward, trying to touch her, but Elise took two steps backward, raising her hands in the air.
“Don’t! Don’t you dare come close to me! I despise you! Both of you!” She thundered and stormed out of the house and into the street.
She walked on the street dejectedly, lost in her thoughts. It was freezing, so she hugged herself in a bid to warm up, but it wasn’t working. She kept shivering and gritting her teeth. She had no place to go and she knew she couldn’t go back to that house.
A black sleek car pulled over at her side. She glanced at the car, but kept on moving, thinking the car didn’t stop for her. But it did.
“Hey! Elise!” She recognized that voice anywhere. After all, how could she forget when the owner did nothing but torment her every single chance he got for the past few months.
“I’m talking to you!” He thundered and Elise stopped in her tracks, turning back to look at him.
“What do you want this time, Alpha Zane?” Elise said sarcastically as Zane chuckled lightly, making her confused.
“Why don’t you get in here? You seem cold. It’s freezing out here,” he said, but Elise was uninterested.
“No, thank you. Leave me alone!” She yelled and turned around to continue her journey.
“Why don’t you want to accept my advances, huh?” He yelled and Elise rolled her eyes.
“You lost that privilege when you rejected me as your mate, remember?” She said casually, which aggravated Zane even more.
"All I ask of you is one night. Just one night!" Zane demanded, his voice dripping with arrogance. "Do you know how many ladies in the city beg me to even touch my clothes and kiss my feet?!"
Elise shrugged, unimpressed by his boastful words.
"Go f**k yourself!" Elise snapped, turning away from him.
Rage surged within Zane as he watched her beautiful form leave his sight.
“Oh, I will make sure I deal with you, Elise Greenwood,” he muttered under his breath, vowing to make life hell for her until she succumbed to his wishes.
Elise was on her way to the hospital for her ultrasound when her phone beeped. She reached for it in her pocket and saw a message on the Pack’s forum online. It read: “The Wolfless girl, ELISE GREENWOOD, is PREGNANT for a STRANGER.”
She gasped as she read those words, feeling like her airway was suddenly restricted. She saw that the sender was Alpha Zane, which made her blood boil.
“How did he even know?” she wondered in utter confusion. She felt sick instantly and wished the ground would swallow her up, but wishes were not horses.
She walked into the hospital and felt all eyes on her. Soon, she heard whispers from every corner of the hall.
“Isn’t that the wolfless girl?”
“So it’s true she’s pregnant!”
“No wonder she’s here at the hospital.”
“She’s shameless to even think of stepping her feet in here.”
Elise felt her feet tremble, but she still had to do her ultrasound.
“Hey, I have a doctor’s appointment today,” she said to the attending nurse, who gave her a disgusted look.
“Go to the back of the line! I will make sure you wait here the whole day, you shameless slut!” the nurse spat, making Elise flinch. She wondered if professionals were supposed to act that way.
Embarrassed, she walked back to the lounge and took a seat, trying to avoid everyone’s gaze. But they were all looking at her like they could see through her soul. It was very uncomfortable for her, but she was determined to get her ultrasound done.
“Hey, you! Get up! All the seats in this hospital are reserved for people with dignity!” The janitor yelled at Elise, making the whole hospital erupt into laughter.
Elise quickly stood up and, without a word, exited the building.
“Cheap slut!”
“Harlot!”
“The nerve to embarrass our pack!”
She kept hearing voices from all corners of the road as she ran as fast as her legs could carry her. She felt absolutely broken and dejected.
Finally, she got to her aunt’s house and banged on the door desperately, hoping to find some refuge.
Aunt Lisa opened the door but blocked the passage so Elise wouldn’t come in.
“Yes? What do you want?” Aunt Lisa sneered at Elise, who looked at her in confusion.
“Please, let me in. I’ve had a bad day already,” Elise pleaded as she tried to squeeze past her aunt, but Aunt Lisa pushed her back.
"You’re not going anywhere. You have succeeded in embarrassing yourself with your big mouth. Now everyone knows your embarrassing secret. Well, they would have known later either way.
The point is, darling, a prestigious family like mine cannot be caught dead housing a shameless slut like you. You’re a disgrace and nobody likes you.
I’ll go get your bags so you can leave my house at once," Aunt Lisa said and slammed the door on Elise’s face, leaving her stunned.
“What just happened?” Elise asked herself as the world started to spin around her. She held her head in frustration and began to hyperventilate.
Zane had succeeded in ruining her completely. Her heart ached as she began to let it all out. Aunt Lisa soon reappeared with her bags and threw them at her, then slammed the door in her face again.
“Where am I going to go? I’m doomed!” Elise cried out in despair.
“Elise! Elise! Are you okay?” Elise looked up as she saw Jake running up to her. Her face brightened, but she still had tears in her eyes as she ran to hug Jake.
“No! No, I’m not okay! I swear I didn’t tell anyone! I’m sure it’s my aunt Lisa who connived with Alpha Zane! I’m so stranded. Everyone hates me!” Elise sobbed on Jake’s shoulders as he tried to calm her down by patting her on her back.
“Come on, you can crash in one of my houses. Let’s get in my car,” Jake said as he helped her carry her bags into his car. He opened the passenger seat for her and she sat inside.
“Jake, I found out something. The reason why I’ve not been able to wolf out. It has been my aunt and uncle all this while. They’ve been poisoning me!” Elise said frustratedly as they were on the road, driving to his place.
“What?! Really?!” Jake thundered as Elise nodded slowly and sniffled. She wiped her face with the back of her hands.
“Don’t worry. I’m here for you. We will get to the bottom of this. I promise,” Jake said, flashing Elise a reassuring smile.
A car swerved right in front of the car they were in, forcing Jake to stop abruptly. His car almost ran into a tree.
“What the f**k!” Elise shouted, out of breath as their lives just flashed before their eyes.
A young man in a suit got out of the car and started walking towards Jake’s car.
Elise instantly recognized who it was…
“Oh no,” she muttered as Jake looked at her in confusion.
“Do you know this guy?” Jake asked as Elise felt a mixture of anger, sadness, fear and joy as she looked at the familiar figure approaching them.
“Yes,” she said, her voice trembling.
“It’s the father of my baby.”
