FIRST TRAINING

We’d just arrived at Kaden university yet Pliar had gotten in trouble because of me on our first day. Lord Kingsley, the founder of Kaden university had called Pliar to his office so I waited anxiously outside for him while the representatives from other districts had gathered in the opening hall for a brief orientation with Lady Everly, the second founder of Kaden university.
After what seemed to be forever, Pliar stepped out of Lord Kinsley’s office. I rushed up to him. “Are you alright?”
“What are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be at the orientation?”
“I couldn’t go without you” I admit “I was worried. How did things go with Lord Kingsley?”
“He just scolded me, that’s all. Let’s go join the others”
Pliar and I moved to the opening hall to join the orientation but by the time we got there, it was already over. We were able to get one from the rest of the representatives that attended though; that the male and female representatives of each district were assigned to sleep in the same room and our first training would commence in the evening before dinner.
I was relieved to hear this. If I were to be assigned to the same room as Pliar for the next two months, it would be awkward beyond measure.
“Then, I’ll see you later” I say to Pliar
“See you later”
Moving away from Pliar, I made my way to the female’s room. There, I find the girls from the other districts already settling in and unpacking their belongings.
As soon as I walked in, all eyes were on me; making me self-conscious. “H-Hello” I stuttered.
A chirpy blonde approached me in all smiles. “Hi, I’m Raina” she introduced, pointing over to a red-haired girl. “And that’s my mate, Sheena. We’re representing the vampire district”
Her mate was..a girl? “Raina, you’re...”
“I’m a lesbian” She concludes. The smile on her face slowly waxes off as she asks “Does that disgust you?”
“Not at all” I say. “I think it’s cute. You two make a cute couple”
Excitedly, Raina turned to face Sheena. “Did you hear her? She said we make a cute couple”
Sheena rolled her eyes, unmoved. “Whatever”
“I’m Kaia representing the hybrid district” I introduced. “Nice to meet you, Raina and Sheena”
A third party clears their throat. Gazing at the direction the sound came from, I saw a girl seated upright on her well-laid bed with a romance novel in her hand. Lowering the novel down, her red pair of glasses were the first thing that caught my attention.
She had light brown hair and a small face. “I’m Phreta representing the coyote district”
”Phreta, It’s nice to meet you” I glanced down at the book in her hands. “You read romance novels?”
“Only when I’m bored”
I chuckled. “You remind me of Cali a bit. He reads romance novels as well. He thinks no one’s watching so he goes to the pack’s study room but I always see him”
As soon as I mentioned Cali’s name, the atmosphere in the air became awkward. “Did I say something wrong?”
“Are you really the chosen mate to those hybrid quad alpha brothers?” Raina asked, “I’m curious”
I chuckled nervously. “Is it hard to believe?”
“Yes” Sheena admitted bluntly. “Or else you’re being forced, no one in their right mind would want to get tangled up with those hybrid quad alpha brothers. Everyone knows that”
“True” Phreta agrees. “Rumor has it that the last of the quad, Aklan had his first kill at the age of 6”
I froze but tried not to show it. Aklan did what? The same Aklan that was always hovering over me?
Raina shivered visibly as if the mention of their names made her skin crawl. “They are all terrifying. All four of them”
“Cali seems to be the only normal one of the quads though” Sheena adds.
“Exactly. When I heard one of the quads would be representing the Sturgeon pack, I was looking forward to seeing Cali” Phreta says. “it was a bit disappointing that Pliar showed up instead”
She paused. “Damn. I’m so sorry, Kaia. We rambled on about your mates without being considerate to your feelings”
“It’s not my first-time hearing something like this” I lied to make them feel comfortable.
“That’s what you’ve got to deal with as their mate” Sheena says, pulling Raina close to her. “That’s enough chit-chat. Let’s not get carried away for a minute that we’re all rivals here. The werewolf district was able to come out as the strongest district the last time because Raina and I weren’t the ones representing the vampire’s district. But this time, it’s going to be different; we’re going to come out top no matter what”
Phreta laughed. “In your dreams, Sheena”
“Is it?” Sheena counterattacked. “As far as I’m concerned, this is my first-time hearing that there is a Phreta from the coyote district”
“Babe, it’s alright” Raina says, trying to distract Sheena. “Let’s watch a movie together on fetflix instead. Phreta, you can go back to reading your novel”
As the girls didn’t seem to be in their friendly mood anymore, I got busy with unpacking. When I was done, I contemplated leaving my room to meet Pliar. If the air was already this tensed here in the female’s room, how worse would the male room be given that he was in the same space as someone he’d picked a fight with earlier?
A knock was heard on the door, interrupting my thoughts. “Come in”
The door is thrown open as Lay Everly walks in. “How are we doing today, Ladies? Hope you had an easy time settling in and are all rested up?”
“Yes, my lady” We chorused in unison. I couldn’t help but wonder why Lady Everly herself had come down to our room.
“Excellent!” Lady Everly squealed in joy. “Now, all four of you should move to the opening hall for your first training”
