Pliar
I’d gotten to know about Kaia’s shaken state so I rushed on to her bedroom but Mother was already with her.
“Mother, I didn’t know you’d be here” I admit, breathing heavily.
A slow smile spread across her face. “You seem to have my four boys all wrapped around your fingers, Kaia. They are all worried about you. I’m glad I get a chance to see this”
Mother brushes her finger across Kaia’s cheeks. “I’ll give you two some time alone. Let me know if you need anything, alright?”
She nods. “Thank you, Lady Marianna”
“Please, call me Mother” Mother corrects.
Kaia blushed. “Thank you, Mother”
As Mother leaves the room, she taps my shoulder. “Don’t talk for too long. You know you have to get ready for school tomorrow”
“Understood, Mother”
When it was just Kaia and I all alone, I drew closer to her. “Are you alright? Xendith didn’t try anything, did he?”
“He didn’t” She replied. “I guess I’m the one overreacting much”
“You’re not overreacting. You have every right to be upset. Do you want me to tell the maids to help you pack up for Kaden if you’re still too shaken up to do so?”
she disagrees. “I prefer to get it done myself, thank you”
I wanted to stay with her a while longer but I assumed she would be tired after such a long day. “Goodnight, then”
“Goodnight, Pliar”
Strolling out of Kaia’s room, I haunted down for Xendith. Fortunately, I found him on the hallway. That i***t had the guts to wave when he saw me. “Pliar, I was just looking for yo—”
I cut him off with a punch right on the face whilst grabbing his collar. “You bastard, why did you barge in on Kaia like that? That was crossing the line. Do you think you have the right to do whatever you like to her just because you’re the one that found her? Bullshit!”
Xendith snickered, unapologetic. “Do you think I walked in on her to sleep with her? Hey, I don’t even need to try that hard”
“Then why did you?”
“I was in the garden when I noticed flickering lights from her room. I thought she would be in danger that’s why I rushed up to her”
I knew Xendith wasn’t capable of intentionally harassing Kaia. I’d just been antsy ever since he’d mentioned me lagging behind others for the throne since I wasn’t close to Kaia.
“You could have called her name from outside her room rather than walking in uninvited”
“I did but got no response until later” Xendith looked down at my hand on his collar. “What a shitty day. Let go off me”
I do as he’d asked. It was then I noticed his bleeding arm. “What happened to you?”
“Oh. Now, you notice?” He inquires, his voice mixed with a hint of sarcasm.
I rolled my eyes. “Do you want me to heal it for you or not?”
“I choose not. Now, f**k off.”
Not wanting to argue with Xendith any further, I watched him leave as I moved to my room to sleep hoping tomorrow at Kaden would be better than tonight.
The next day, the tension between the four of us was undeniably unbearable. Aklan and Cali seemed to have had a fall out. He wasn’t talking with Xendith as well so they couldn’t all come to see us off together. Aklan had only come to see me off while on my way out to Kaden university not because he wanted to but because he wanted to see Kaia.
“We’d barely spent some time together and now; you’d be gone for two months. How am I going to live without you?” He gushed out while holding Kaia’s hand.
I rolled my eyes at his dramatic words. “We’ll be coming home once in a while”
He glared at me with a serious expression all over his face. “Don’t try anything funny like Xendith did, Pliar. My eyes will always be on you two there. Literally”
“Whatever” I wasn’t planning on doing anything with Kaia except getting close to her. Any other thing can be thought of after our mating ceremony. My eyes catch Cali at the back. It was as though he was waiting for Aklan to leave.
“This is really awkward” I mumbled under my breathe, “Are you done, Aklan? It seems like Cali has something to say”
“Well, f**k him and f**k you too for not treating Xendith’s arm”
“He said he didn’t need my help”
“You know damn well Xendith always says things he doesn’t mean” Aklan sighs. “I’m glad I won’t get to see your face for two months, Pliar. Hopefully, things would be more peaceful around here”
That fucker.
He bids farewell with Kaia one last time before leaving and letting Cali see us off next. Finally, when all goodbyes were said and done, we left for Kaden university. I didn’t understand the pressure of what I was set out for until I’d gotten there.
Two representatives from all four districts had gathered outside the university. Raina and Sheena, two girls around my age represented the vampire district. I knew their names fairly well because news of their killings had spread round the pack mansion like wildfire.
Gayla and Phreta represented the Coyote district. It’s my first time hearing their names so I doubt there was any need to look out for them. Kaia and I represented the hybrid district and from all four district, only one district was going to prove victorious and be seen as the strongest.
I couldn’t afford to fail.
Wait. It was supposed to be four districts. Where was the last one?
“I can’t believe I’m here again” A familiar voice says, making shiver run down my spine. It couldn’t be. Turning towards the direction of the voice, I froze. It was him. Jameson Davidson of the werewolf district. He was the one that emerged victorious from the last time making the werewolf district be seen as the strongest.
Our district couldn’t participate then as my brothers and I were yet to find a mate but now that we could participate, things would be different, right?
To make matters worse, Jameson had returned with his same partner he’d used to win with the last time. It wasn’t just the Jameson winning last time that made me tremble. It was also coupled with the fact that everything I knew about fighting; I’d learnt if from Jameson before we fell out from being friends.
The truth that I had no winning chance slapped me hard in the face.
“Look who we have here; Pliar Taylor” He says with a hint of mockery. “Of the four alpha brothers, I can’t believe Sturgeon pack chose you as their representative” His gaze drops down at Kaia. “And who is that pathetic looking omega beside you? Don’t tell me she’s your ma—”
I couldn’t hold my anger in much longer. I was already feeling inferior against Jameson but how dare he speak trash against Kaia?
Pulling him by the collar, I land a punch on his face. “You can talk trash about me, Jameson but don’t run your mouth about my mate”
