ALL ALONE

Xendith "Mother, you're home early" My shaky voice greets. Why was I trembling this much? "Welcome" "I thought you missed me, Xendith. Especially since you asked Aklan to check up on my location" Aklan threw his hands up in the air. "I didn't mean to, Mother" "It's alright" Mother says, walking to her golden chair in the ancestral hall. "So, what have you four been up to? Have you found your chosen mate yet?" I dared not speak up. Kaia wasn't ready to meet mother. Not right now, anyways. Something wet drips down my nose. It was blood. Don't tell me Mother had just read my mind. Staring at Mother in shock, she had a smirk plastered across her face. "It looks like you have something to tell me, Xendith. Did I hear you say her name was Kaia? I'd like to meet her. Right now," "Mother, why don't you meet Kaia during dinner?" Cali inquires. "You just came back from a four days trip. You need rest" Mother nods in agreement. "You're right, Cali. So, fill me in on what's been happening in the pack house. Which one of you did the pack elders choose to enroll into Kaden university?" I furrowed my brow, confused. Given Mother's sharp vision, she was supposed to know that already unless she didn't know because it involved Kaia. More blood dripped down my nose. "Seriously, Mother. Stop reading my mind. You're going to kill me at this rate" Mother chuckled. "It's not my fault your thoughts are all over the place" "I was chosen to attend Kaden university, Mother" Pliar chimes in. "But, what sort of school is Kaden university?" "It's more of a training center than a school" Mother explains. "There, you'd learn to work on your strengths. There would be an exam at the end of the session. Physical examination. If you can defeat all the other candidates, you'd be seen as one of the strongest alphas" Shit. That sounded like a lot of responsibility but something definitely fit for a person like Pliar. "You're lucky it isn't actual school, Pliar" I teased. "I'm aware it's two candidates per pack" Mother says. "So, Pliar and who is going?" "I and Kaia" Pliar responds. "Your mate?" A slow smile spread across Mother's lips. One that showed that she was certainly intrigued. "Now, I can't wait to meet her" "Did something happen on your trip, Mother?" Cali asks. "It's unlike you to return home earlier than you said you would just because you miss us or Aklan spied in on you" Aklan punched Cali's arm. "Language, Cali. I didn't mean to check in on Mother's location so stop making me sound like some sort of p*****t" "But you did spy on Mother. What if she was in the shower, huh? We both made a pact not to use our powers on Mother unless necessary –not like mine works on her anyways-" Right. Cali and Mother couldn't read each other's mind. Since their powers were the same, they rather cancelled out each other. But Cali could feel Mother's thoughts and emotions. It was as if they were mirror images of each other's feelings. Maybe that's why he was able to sense that there was something wrong with Mother. "You're right, Cali" Mother admits. "I tried to act alright but I guess there's no hiding my emotions from you" "What's the problem, Mother?" Aklan asked with a serious tone. Despite how much we might fear Mother, we all cared deeply about her. Most especially Aklan. He'd once killed for Mother when we were younger but that would be a story for another day. "My target that I was supposed to hunt down and kill escaped" Mother explains. "I think he's working with a witch as I can't spot him with my vision. He must be under some sort of invisibility protection spell" "I think he's going to launch an attack on the pack so I came back to protect it" Mother continued. "I must be getting old to have let a target escape" "We can protect the pack, Mother" I assured her. "Or don't you trust us?" "I do. But you see, it's my mess so I have to take care of it" she paused. "I promised Monroe not to cause trouble to the pack when he fought for me to part of the pack. I can't let him down now. Moreover, you four need to work on getting the throne and nothing else" A yawn escaped Mother's lips. "I'm tired. Aklan, wake me up when it's time for dinner" "Yes, Mother" With that said, Mother speeded out of the pack's ancestral hall. Once she was out of sight, I drew near to Aklan. "How come you didn't see Mother's return?" Aklan glared at me. "Because of you, I forgot my pact not to use my powers on Mother. This is why I don't hang out with you" Damn. He was really upset. "Hey, Aklan-" I called out, trying to reason with him but Aklan had transformed into his raven form right Infront of us and flew out the window. "Give him some time to calm down, Xendith" Cali advices. "Aklan's just upset at himself for using his power on Mother. I'm going to head back to the study. You might want to leave as well" "Thanks, Cali" Cali exits the pack's ancestral hall. I decided to follow suit because I didn't want to be in a space with Pliar. Nothing good ever came from our company. Just as I was about to leave, Pliar holds me back. "Earlier, you left the pack mansion with Kaia. Where did you two go?" I smirked. "Why? Does it bother you?" "Kaia isn't just yours, Xendith. If you'll be leaving the pack house with her, the least you could do is to give the rest of us a heads-up" "The 'rest of us' or you?" I inquired. "I thought you weren't interested in Kaia" "At first. But like you said, I'm lagging behind" Pliar lets go off his hold on my hands. "Who knows Kaden university might just be the chance I've been looking for? It's going to be just Kaia and I all alone after all"
