Prologue

Jordan Rhodes, the sexy bachelor, is a tabloid favorite. Devastatingly handsome with his silky light brown hair always slicked back and never out of place. His permanent five o’clock shadow stops women dead in their tracks. He is well built with a broad chest and lean sexy muscles. He’s strong but not a giant like his little cousin, Ben Wilder. Jordan is built for endurance, not brute force. His tattoos tell a story that only he knows. Ink therapy is the only therapy he needs. Well, so he thinks.

 Successful businessman during the day and playboy at night, and heir to the largest hotel chain in the country. On the outside, Jordan has it all. Fame, fortune, and beautiful women vying for his attention if only just for one night. Jordan doesn’t date. He doesn’t kiss. He doesn’t cuddle. He f***s and moves on. Because at the end of the day, women leave. They always f*****g leave. So why treat them like they will actually stay? He has his beautiful mini mansion, his loyal dog, Bruno the Lab and his famed night clubs. That is all he needs in life with the occasional side f**k to quench his thirst as needed.

The day his mother died, the sweet and charming boy with a heart of gold died along with her. Only those close to Jordan see his true self, even then he tries to hide it. He hides the hurt and the sorrow that he refuses to come to terms with. But he will always be there for his family and his closest friends, maybe his heart of gold is alive after all…just barely beating.

Eve Tally is a world renowned trick rider. Her and her big brother were at the top of their game as teenagers when tragedy struck. She was performing the show stopping stunt she is known for when something went horribly wrong. She lost her best friend in the world that night. She also lost a lot of herself. If only that was the worst to happen in her young life. More death and more illness will chip away at her little by little as the years pass. The one person she thought she could count on after losing everything hurt her deeply. So she closed herself off completely.

If not losing her brother and father was enough, she had to make the tough decision on her own to put her mother in a nursing home. Between caring for her mother with Alzheimer’s Disease and becoming the ranch manager at a local stable, the weight of the world was crushing her. Her mom needed 24 hour care and Eve needed to work to pay the bills. What was she to do? Add on the fact that nursing homes are not cheap. Yes, survivor benefits help but its never enough. Anything Eve does, she feels is never enough.

 When life would get to be too much, she would go out with her friends and put on her sexy vixen façade and flirt with whoever held her attention for more than 5 minutes. If it she felt like it, she’ll use s*x as stress relief. Afterward she’ll just move on and never look back because this life is a cruel f*****g joke.
