When the new arrivals entered the room, Brian stood. “Hello, General. We’re glad you could make it here. This is Devin Baker. Devin, this is General Marcus Quimby. He’s the current Commander in Chief of what’s left of our nation.”
Devin stood and was confused about what to say or do. He’d never spoken to someone holding military rank before.
He stuck out his hand. “Good to meet you, sir.”
The general took the offered hand. “I’m glad to meet you, Devin. From what I’m hearing, you might be the most important person in the whole world right now.”
“That is what they’re telling me, and that makes me very uncomfortable.”
