Chapter 16

1217 Words
DAMIAN Seraphina stood still in front of me, like my words suddenly made her immobile. I looked at her face again, her eyes down, like an eye contact with me would burn her. Great. I walked back to my seat and gently sat down, my eyes still on her. “You're dismissed,” I said flatly and she scurried away. I scoffed and picked up my laptop, but I didn't work. My mind kept going back to her reaction when she'd seen me in her room last night. I had simply gone to warn her, but obviously, she was fine. I looked at the laptop again and the image of her face appeared on the screen, her face when she hadn't seen me, when she was lost in the damn rose and then her face when she saw me. I scoffed and finally started typing, she was my bride after all, and very soon she would start performing her duties as a wife, or did she forget? Matteo's knock sounded then and he walked in. His face looked urgent and he held a file, he walked inside and stopped in front of me. “Gideon Saint,” he started and I raised my eyebrows in mild confusion. Gideon was one of my investors at the company and he wasn't part of the dark world, or so I thought. He placed the file on the table. “Twelve years with the company, estate access, event clearance, full operational visibility." He paused. "The camera interruption on the night of the event traces back to a device registered under Caruso Holdings,” he finally revealed and I sighed. Vincenzo's company. “What does it have to do with Gideon,” I asked and he opened the file then, and inside were surveillance photos of Gideon tampering with the camera in my house. He flipped the pictures, one of him tampering with the camera, one of him entering Sera’s room, and one picture of him with Vincenzo. My fist clenched and I went through them again, wondering about Vincenzo's connection with Seraphina’s dead mother. “Was this all you found?” I asked flatly and Matteo nodded. “We are looking into her father,” he said and I nodded. I closed the file and handed it to him. “Find everything,” I said and he nodded. “What do we do with him?” He asked the important question and I shrugged. "Don't touch him," I said and Matteo blinked. “Boss—” “Don't touch him,” I repeated and looked at Matteo. “Let him believe he's not been found, let him keep reporting to Vincenzo and we'll strike when we are ready.” “You want him comfortable?” Matteo asked slowly. "I want him useful," I corrected. "A known traitor is worth more alive and ignorant than dead and replaced by someone I haven't found yet." I paused. "When I move on Gideon, it will be because moving on him costs Vincenzo something he can't recover from, and that time is not now.” Matteo nodded and turned to go but— “Get an office ready for Seraphina,” I suddenly said and he paused. He studied me for a moment before he nodded. “What department?” “PR and marketing,” I replied. “Isn't that what she studied?” “And get the cars ready, we have a meeting with the captain.” Matteo nodded with a smirk before he walked off. It's time to make use of my bride's brains. ****************** The captain sat at the end of the club when we walked in, Matteo was behind me while my other men stood outside. Captain was my most loyal shipper, and he'd been with me since I started and he had shown so much loyalty that I trusted him enough. “Welcome De Luca,” he said hoarsely as I sat down. “You kept the old man waiting,” he complained and I scoffed. “You came earlier.” He chuckled dryly then. “Some of us have heads that we're trying to protect,” he said and turned to Matteo. “Isn't that right, Matteo?” He asked and Matteo chuckled, they got along well. “Why did you call a meeting urgently,” I went into business immediately and he sighed before snapping his fingers and a box appeared in front of us, he nodded and the delivery man left. “We sold out faster than usual,” he said and slowly opened the box. “The new weapon produced seems to be great,” he said as he passed the box to me. I took the box and gently ran my hands through the weapon. It was a little weapon but it was more powerful than the bigger ones. “That's great,” I said and handed it back to him. “We produce more,” I said and he nodded. “We protect it too,” he said and looked at me. “If the other producers get to know much about it, we might have competitions.” “Competitions don't scare me captain,” I said and stood up. “Just do your part.” He nodded and closed the box before standing. “I got a girl for you,” he started and pointed at the hot, petite girl standing on the other side and she smiled. “It's my wedding gift to you,” he continued and turned to Matteo. “You can choose from the other girls, this one is specifically for the boss.” Matteo chuckled and hit his arm. “I’m good,” he said and turned to me. “Boss?” “Thank you Captain, but I'm good,” I said but he chuckled. “What? Her p***y so good you can't taste another on—” I pinned him to the wall before he could complete that sentence and his face went from surprise to fear in seconds. “You still love that head of yours? You cease to talk about my wife,” I warned and he raised his hands in surrender. I looked at him for some seconds before leaving him forcefully and he staggered. “My bad,” he apologised but I was almost at the exit. The drive home was quite bad and Matteo wisely didn't speak a word. I didn't know why I was this angry, but Seraphina was my bride and only I had the right to speak about her. The car pulled in and I walked out, leaving Matteo behind. I walked towards her room and opened it without knocking. She stood near her wardrobe with her nightgown looking at me with those eyes that did nothing but annoy me. “Do you need my help?” She asked quietly and I scoffed. “Get ready in five and come to my room,” I said and her eyes widened. “What? You have no plans of performing your duties as a wife?” I asked as I walked closer and she shifted back while shaking her head. I paused then. “Good,” I said. “Don't be a second late,” I ordered and turned to go.
