“Everything is looking good,” Charlene, the head midwife, said with a smile. Charlene, a middle-aged midwife of fifteen years, had delivered over two hundred babies in her years of midwifery. Several years back she’d even performed an unexpected triplet delivery with a New Jersey couple. She held a Master’s degree in nursing, a certification in midwifery, and was a certified nurse practitioner. Charlene ventured into the world of midwifery when she herself was pregnant and desired a natural home birth.
