Seeing that things weren't going as planned, she stomped her foot on the ground lightly before walking past them. The guests present mocked Lilian while whispering to each other from time to time. Lilian had never felt so embarrassed her whole life. She clenched her fist, her teeth gritted in anger as she heard the words of a woman who'd always tried to curry favor with her. “Don't mind the words of a spineless woman who lacks self-respect. She's always been so full of herself; always looking down on people and acting overly pompous” Others chimed in, mocking Lilian in the most gruesome way. The same people who were all over her the other day, trying to get business deals and establish a connection with the Evangeline family through her. The same people suddenly switched allegiance and began fawning over Bella. "I agree. She is self-centered and full of herself. I wouldn't be surprised if she has been unfaithful to Bill, her fiancé, just as she may have been with her Ex-husband." “I mean. She is a disrespectful b***h after all” "She casually insulted Miss Rosewood's Boyfriend. The Evangeline family is done for" "Yeah. The attention-seeking bride has lost sight of why we are all here – her wedding. Instead of taking her vows, she chose to create a scene, publicly attacking her ex-husband. What a fool!" "You stupid bitches, I will so deal........." Lillian wasn't able to finish her statement when her mother, Mrs Celestia Envageline, who had just walked in, grabbed her by her hand, stopping her. "How long will you continue to embarrass this family? Don't you think you've done enough and should know when to give up?" Mrs Celestia looked seriously pissed. Mrs. Celestia has never yelled at her daughter or stopped her from doing anything wrong. She spoiled Lilian, believing that as the beloved daughter of the Evangeline family, Lilian could do whatever she wanted and that no one would be able to stop her. Even when Lilian treated James poorly, Mrs. Celestia never intervened; instead, she joined Lilian in making James's life miserable. Mrs Celestia never felt guilty; after all, that was what he deserved for making the daughter of the Evangeline family live in a tiny hut with little money after marriage. The fact that Mrs. Celestia stopped Lilian now made her realize that she had gone too far. Lilian began to panic. “I apologize to Miss Rosewood for your wrong actions immediately!” Mrs. Celestia said, sending a piercing glare at Lilian, who flinched. However, Lilian kept her lips tightly sealed, refusing to apologize to Bella. Seeing this, Mrs. Celestia grabbed Lilian by the back of her neck, bending it downwards as a form of apology, “Miss Rosewood, I hope you can forgive my daughter's rude behavior just now. I’m afraid we have spoiled her terribly.” “You're apologizing to the wrong person. You and your daughter should apologize to James, the one your daughter insulted and mocked in front of the few guests, not me.” Bella spoke with a smile that wasn't quite a smile on her face. “I'd rather eat grass than apologize to this— hmph!” Mrs. Celestia covered her daughter's stubborn mouth once again while cursing inwardly. Lillian should learn how to read the damned room! Why can't she understand that we can't afford to offend the Rosewood family?! “Lilian, if you don't apologize, I will freeze all your bank cards, leaving you completely penniless,” Mrs. Celestia whispered to only Lilian's hearing. Lilian froze. Her bank cards? No way! If her mom takes them away, there wouldn't be any difference between her and that pauper, James! “I. I apologize for my rude behavior James. I didn't mean to do it.” Lilian said half-heartedly. Bella wanted to keep going, but James told her to stop. The conversation was already dragging on. He appreciated Bella standing up for him - no one had ever done that before - but arguing with someone as dense as Lilian wasn't the best way to shut her up for good. A few minutes ago, during their argument. James stared at Lilian, deep in thought. Reflecting on more than three years of marriage filled with bitterness and Lilian's recent words, James felt anger surge through his veins. For years, he had endured a lot and had given Lilian everything he could never afford for himself, yet she never appreciated it. She cheated on him repeatedly and laughed in his face. She mocked him time after time, showing not even an ounce of remorse. She once stood at the center of his world. He would have done anything to see her smile. But now, watching her crumble under her arrogance, James realized how blind he'd been. No more. This is the end of his suffering—and the start of hers. It was finally time to teach the Evangeline family a lesson. After Lillian apologized, James wished them a prosperous wedding—a wish that contrasted sharply with the severe poverty he intended for them. They left the building and soon, The pair reached the car waiting for them outside. Bella unlocked the door but paused, turning to James with a thoughtful expression. James noticed her look and tilted his head slightly. "What is it?" Bella hesitated for a moment, then let out a soft laugh, her tone more curious than cruel. "I was just wondering... What did you ever see in Lilian? She's so... dense. It's hard to imagine someone like you ever choosing someone like her." James leaned against the car, his expression calm. "I’ve asked myself the same question more times than I care to admit," he said. "Maybe I thought I could change her. Maybe I wanted to prove I could make it work, even when everything pointed to the opposite." He shook his head. "But it doesn’t matter anymore. She never deserved the effort." Bella nodded, her gaze lingering on him, a playful spark dancing in her eyes as her red lips curled into a deliberate, teasing smile. "It’s good to see you finally understand your worth, James. You deserve better—much better." A faint smile tugged at James's lips as he straightened and opened the car door for her. "I know that now." Bella slid into the driver’s seat, her poise unshaken. As the car pulled away, James glanced back at the grand hall fading in the distance. For the first time, he felt nothing—no regret, no longing, just anger. All he needed to do was crush the past, and the future was his to claim.
