I watched Sapphire break as she crumbled to her knees, and all I could do was go down with her so she wouldn’t scrape her knees on the hard pavement. The ground hit my skin, but I didn’t flinch because this was the first time in my life that I felt absolutely useless.
I wanted to take this pain away from her, but I didn’t know how. Sapphire didn’t deserve to go through any pain, not after what I had found out about her.
I was boiling with so much rage that the only thing I wanted to do was banish those who hurt her from the face of the earth. And, if possible, make sure they had no peace even in death.
But I needed to be calm because of her.
Sapphire covered her face with her palms as she sobbed. “There’s nothing to live for. Everyone’s gone. I’m all alone.”
