Adeline's POV
I rushed back into the bakery, the excitement from earlier events
still coursing through me. As I pushed through the doors, the smell
of freshly baked goodies and coffee mingled in the air and
comforted me
Naria, Cara, Diego, Shannon and Scott were all standing around,
waiting with curiosity lighting their eyes
Naria was the first to speak "So, how'd it go? What did she think of
the cake?"
I smirked "She loved it so much so, that she even invited me to her
event tonight"
Shannon's eyes widened "Wait, Gwendolyn Cavill invited you to a
party? That's incredible Adeline!"
Cara grinned "Well, what are you waiting for? You should head
home right now and get ready, you've got to look your best!"
"What happened anyway I thought you were heading home?" Diego
asked smiling
"Theo happened" I frowned
"What did he do this time?" Scott asked his face mirroring everyone
else's disgusted expression
"Flattened my tire, left a stupid note about me being 'stingy' because
I wouldn't let him rob me, can you believe that?"
"That's just awful, Adel, I don't know why you ever got involved
with him in the first place" Naria says
"Me neither" I sigh
"He's a piece of s**t who's so full of himself" Cara exclaimed her
voice doused in disgust
"He's also bitter and half of the time he seems so envious of you
Adeline" Shannon chimed in
"Tell me about it, he always huddled and criticized her" Scott also
joined in
How wonderful!
"Thank goodness it was never a serious relationship meaning he
won't be hard to get rid of" Naria said and rolled her eyes
"Even though" Cara said and turned to me "Listen Adeline next time
you are horny text me I can hook you up with guys better than
Theodore" she finished and my face flushed red in embarrassment
"Thanks... I guess Cara" I say
"You are welcome" she replied with a mocking wink
"Enough of that Theodore guy you need a ride home then right
Adeline?" Diego asks
Before I could answer Naria tossed Diego her keys "Take my car.
Diego will drive you, he was also leaving early anyway"
And I blink "Oh right the AA meeting?" I say
Diego was an addict for five years when he finally decided to go
sober last year after his sister died in a tragic car accident when she
was driving to get to him in the hospital he was admitted because he
was found unresponsive in his apartment due to an overdose, he
woke up two days later and his sister had already being buried by
the city because she was unidentified, from that day onwards he
made a vow to himself to never go back to drugs or alcohol ever
again
"Yup, 94 days sober" Scott says patting his back
"We are all very proud of you Diego" Shannon says her face turning
a shade of pink
Interesting
"Yes we are" Cara says "But we'll be even more proud if you get to
your Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in time and get our dear friend
here home so she can get ready"
"Yes yes right, let me grab my coat" he walks out of the kitchen and I
grab my phone and quickly shoot a text to Gwen of my address then
pocketed my phone and grabbed my bag
"All right let's go" Diego said and I turned to my team
"Thanks, guys I don't know what I'd do without all of you"
"We'd never let you find out" Shannon joked
"Alright we'll see you all tomorrow, wish us luck" Diego said as we
headed out the front door
"Break a leg!" Naria called out
I followed Diego outside and we walked to where Naria had parked
her car.
The ride home was quick, and I was grateful for the silence, I'm sure
Diego was too, it's not easy quitting a five-year addiction, when we
reached my house, I thanked Diego again and made my way inside
The house was a cozy two-story home with a modern exterior and
the front yard was filled with beautiful flowers I took care of myself
in my free time
I stepped inside and the familiar warmth of my house greeted me
followed by a stomach growl reminding me I hadn't eaten since this
morning.
I opened the fridge and pulled out some leftover pasta, I put it into
the microwave before heading upstairs to my bedroom to take a
long soak in the tub
After the soak in the tub which did a great job I dried off and put on
a fluffy robe, there were still a few hours left before the event so I
made my way to my closet to browse my options.
Tonight was important, not just because Gwendolyn had invited me
but because I would be mingling with the city's most elite
individuals and I needed to make a good impression, I couldn't just
show up in something casual.
After flipping through several hangers, my fingers landed on a
gown. It was a deep emerald green color with a halter neckline that
showed some cleavage, sleeveless and made of silk, Perfect for a
night like this.
I pulled the gown out of my closet and hung it up satisfied with my
choice, the microwave timer beeped, and I headed downstairs and
grabbed my pasta, sat at the kitchen island, and ate
After I was done eating I realized I still had a few hours left before
the event, so I decided to make use of the time. I grabbed my laptop
and settled onto the couch, and opened up my social media Silver
Olive account, I spent the next hour going over the details of a new
wedding cake order, helping them carefully plan out the design and
budget to make sure everything was perfect for their special day
Before I knew it I glanced at the clock on the wall I would run late if
I didn't go get ready now, so I set my laptop aside and bolted to my
room
