Adeline’s POV
I was halfway through doing my hair when I heard the front door
open and a voice I recognized instantly called my name
"Adeline? Are you home?" Theo said his voice coming from
downstairs
"Adeline?" He called out again
I scowled and rolled my eyes and took out the rollers from my hair
then I ran a hand through it, I was about to head downstairs to kick
Theo out of my house when my phone pinged with a text from Gwen
The driver is here are you ready? the text read
I'll be out now, thanks for the ride I quickly typed back a
response
Don't thank me darling anytime her response comes in and I
send a quick emoticon reply
Kisses.>3 Then I slid my phone into the invisible pocket in my
dress grabbed my clutch and headed downstairs
"There you are Adeline..." Theo said the moment he saw me and he
let out a soft whistle "Going somewhere darling?" He said grinning
but my face remained fixed in a scowl
"Get out of my house now Theo!" I said firmly
He stumbled slightly still smiling like the i***t he was "Come on,
don't be like this! We can talk, right? You don't have to go anywhere
to try and replace me let's just stay in and sort this out”
I could smell the alcohol on him from where I stood which was a
safe distance away from him, His eyes were glassy, his eyes had no
light in them, he was drunk! "Theo, I have somewhere to be, just
leave now, alright?" I said
He took a step toward me, ignoring me completely, His voice dipped
lower making his speech slur even more "Come on, Adeline... we
were good together, let's just forget about everything that happened,
okay baby?" He reached out, grabbing my arm in an attempt to give
me a hug
I stiffened and pushed against his chest with all my strength “Don’t
you dare touch me Theo!” I yelled "You need to leave. Now”
He stumbled back a bit but kept his hands on me his grip loosening
and tightening "Why are you being like this baby?” His words were
harsh now he was getting frustrated "I know you miss me, Adeline
you've gotta miss what we had”
“Miss you? You tried to rob me, Theo, then you damaged my car
after I kicked you out of the bakery earlier today! You committed
multiple crimes!” I shoved him again but he didn’t budge
"I don't want anything to do with you anymore, everything we did
was a mistake you need to leave and not come back!”
His face twisted in anger and for the first time I saw Theo for who
he was, the bitter, cruel, self-centered "You're being such a b***h,
Adeline you act like I'm the bad guy here, but you know…"
I didn't wait to hear the rest of the nonsense he was about to say, I
made a run for it my heels clicked against the floor as I ran toward
the door Theo swore loudly behind me his footsteps thudding as he
ran after me, my hands fumbled slightly with the doorknob but I
yanked it open just in time before Theo caught me
"Adeline, wait!" His voice was near me but I didn't stop running, I
sprinted toward the street, and then I saw Damon standing near his
car across the driveway
"Damon!" I called out my voice trembling with fear and adrenaline
He immediately looked up, his expression shifting to high alert
instantly, and before I knew it he was running toward me before
reached him
“What’s going on here?” He asked when he finally stood in front of
me
Theo immediately came to a halt behind us his face painted in utter
frustration, he was struggling to stand straight due to how drunk he
was
“What are you trying to do to her? Go away from here and never
come back” Damon said in a firm voice
Theo looked at me “I see you were going on a date. The same day
you tried to break up with me? So you were cheating on me all
along?” Theo said drowsily and angrily “I should have done more
than what I did to you, I should have known what a w***e you were,
you would do anything for a good f*****g”
“That’s enough! Go away!” Damon said
“I’ll go away all right, and once you’ve f****d her the way she wants,
she’ll come right back to me” Theo said and spat on the ground
I watched in utter disbelief, his words hit a nerve all right I was
holding back tears that were threatening to spill
“The best Slut in the city of Manhattan” Theo mumbled before
driving off in his car leaving a cloud of dust
I stood there, my throat closing up on me, I was trembling, I didn’t
know if it was from fear or the cold or even both…
"Are you okay?" he asked softly, turning me to face him as his eyes
searched mine
I nodded quickly “I'm fine... I'm sorry about that” I said
"Don't apologize” Damon said "It's fine, are you sure you still want
to go to the event? After all that?”
I shrugged, trying to brush it off, but I could still feel his sharp gaze
on me
“Look, you might be in danger if he’s acting like that in a drunk
state, it’s better if you come with me so I can keep an eye on you,
and if you're not up for it you don't have to talk to anyone at the
event I'll make sure you're okay”
I nodded again all while I kept my head lowered avoiding his gaze
"Thank you, Damon”
"Not a problem” he said and led me to the car and opened the
passenger door he then helped me inside then shut the door, and
walked around to the driver’s side
The ride to the event was silent. I stared out of the window, trying to
calm the thoughts running around in my head
Thankfully Damon stayed silent too, he didn’t even ask who Theo
was or what actually happened, even though it’s pretty obvious who
Theo was, an obsessive ex who tried to attack me and Damon saved
me from being the victim of a true crime case of a drunk man killing
his ex and dumping her body in a river
