Adeline’s POV
By the time we reached the Cavill estate I was feeling much better,
Theo’s words did little harm to me, maybe it was because deep
down I knew there was some truth to it
I mean it’s not every day you meet a girl who doesn’t want to
commit to a romantic relationship and would rather have s*x-only
relationships
What else do you call a girl like that if not a slut.
But I was an ambitious slut, I was a slut that owned a successful
business, the bottom line is I am probably the best slut to ever exist
The car came to a smooth stop in the estate before I could register
what was happening Damon was already out circling the car to open
my door, I blinked in surprise, but when he extended his hand I
didn’t hesitate to take it and he helped me out of the car
“Are you better?” He asked
“I am” I said with a smile still avoiding his eyes but I meant it I felt
good
The Cavill mansion was brightly lit as we walked up the marble
steps, I couldn’t help but notice the shift in the atmosphere eyes
turned our way, and hushed whispers of people looking, then it
dawned on me, I just walked into a socialite event hand in hand
with Damon Cavill, acting blissfully ignorant to the people around
us Damon navigated through the crowd with ease his hand now
resting gently on the small of my back
Soon, we spotted Gwendolyn Cavill surrounded by admirers and
obviously important people and her eyes lit up when she saw me
"Adeline!" Gwendolyn called out stepping forward with a warm
smile “I’m so glad you could make it” She glanced at her son.
"Thank you, Damon for bringing her here, I trust she wasn’t too
much trouble?"
I tended and quickly glanced at Damon hoping he wouldn’t say
anything about what happened when he came to pick me up and to
my surprise he said "Not at all"
“Great!” Gwen said and turned to the company she was with before
we came “The lot of you, this is the girl that created that beautiful
cake, Adeline”
“Oh my how… unexpected” a lady in purple said as she looked at me
from head to toe “She’s as beautiful as her cake, even more”
“Tell me about it, she fits in effortlessly here, you are very gorgeous
darling” another lady in a red dress said
“Adeline is a lovely name too, it’s so… sophisticated” another lady in
a white dress said with a smirk
Gwen turned to me her eyes sparkling “I know she’s charming” she
said and I smiled
“Well I’ve got to go and attend to something urgent okay but don’t
worry Damon will keep you company”
Damon nodded in agreement as if remembering what he said earlier
“Of course”
Gwen smiled at me then strutted away
"Would you like something to drink?” Damon asks turning to me
I nodded “Yes please”
"I’ll be back” he said then walked off toward where I’m guessing the
drinks must be
I stood there alone and I used this opportunity to take in the hall, it
was a stunning hall filled with the chatter of people present and the
soft hum of ‘Claire de Lune’ playing from the piano in the corner
"Hi there!" A bubbly voice called out behind me and I turned to see
a beautiful blonde lady She had blue eyes and was wearing a beige
colored dress "I don’t think we’ve met I’m Ahvina”
"I’m Adeline. It’s nice to meet you”
"Adeline... that’s a terrific name” Ahvina said "So, you’re Damon’s
date tonight?"
I tenses "Uh…No, not exactly, I was just invited by his mother”
"Ah” she nodded and her smile grew wider "How long have you
known the Cavills then? they don’t just invite anyone to their
parties"
Her tone was friendly enough but not welcoming
"Not very long” I answered carefully
“Interesting” Ahvina said with a hum “So no deep connections with
the family then? No secret ties?”
I forced a laugh “No nothing like that”
Before she could continue, Damon had returned, holding two
glasses of… some drink I didn’t recognize
His jaw clenched the moment his eyes landed on Ahvina
“Damon, how lovely it is to meet you” She said her bubbly voice
gone and now replaced with a forced seductive tone
“I can’t say the same about you” Damon said his voice showing no
emotion
Ahvina laughed “Always so funny”
Damon’s face still showed no emotion as he said “What are you
doing here?”
“Oh nothing just having a friendly chat with your new friend”
"Right. Well, move along”
“Don’t act all protective now, I was just getting to know her that’s
all”
“Like I said move along”
“Alright, alright I’ll go, but don’t worry, I’m sure we’ll see each other
again soon Adeline” she said and walked off
And I just stared at her baffled…
"Sorry about that” Damon said his voice softening
"Let me guess, ex-girlfriend?”
Damon chuckled darkly “Not really, it’s complicated”
“Yes I understand those” I said and for the first time this night I met
his gaze, he was smiling softly at me “I guess we have something in
common, complicated situation-ships”
He chuckled lightly and handed me my drink and held his “Let’s
cheers to that” he said and I smiled at him chuckling too
“Yes, Cheers” I said and we clicked our glasses and downed the
contents of the glass, which turned out to be a virgin mojito
Damon then took my empty cup from my hand and set it on a
waitstaff’s tray nearby and he took my hand
“Let me show you something I think you’ll love” He said
“Sure!” I beamed and let him drag me through the crowd
Finally, we stopped in front of a large set of double doors, he pushed
it open and we walked in and the sight of the room that greeted me
was something I didn’t even know was possible
