1| his miserable life
“being the dust on the ground am I allowed to desire the sky?”
_____________
Aksh settled himself in a corner, a humble plate of food in his grasp. As he prepared to indulge in his meal, he noticed the worn-out state of his clothing and quickly used it to wipe his hands. However, before he could take a single bite, his plate was snatched away by some servants who were standing nearby with sly smirks on their faces.
"Why did you take my food?" Aksh asked, furrowing his brow in confusion.
"You can have it back once you finish all your assigned chores," they replied with a hint of malice in their tone.
"I have already completed all my tasks," Aksh retorted firmly.
"Give me my food back," he demanded.
The servants scoffed at his boldness and questioned how he dared to speak to them in such a manner. They then proceeded to assign him the additional task of cleaning the garden on their behalf as they claimed they had somewhere urgent to be.
Aksh reluctantly got up and made his way to the garden, diligently tending to each and every plant with care. When he returned, exhausted from his labor, he was dismayed to find that there was no food left for him. Quietly sipping on some water, he retreated to his small and unkempt room where he lay down on his modest mattress.
As if on cue, there was a knock on the door. Aksh rose from his makeshift bed and opened the door to find a man dressed in a sleek black coat with a young girl cradled in his arms.
"Step aside," the man commanded gruffly, and without hesitation Aksh obeyed. He watched as the man carefully laid the girl onto his humble mattress before turning towards him.
"She is our enemy's daughter. Your father has ordered for her to be kept here under our watchful eyes," the man explained, casting a piercing gaze towards Aksh. The young girl's hands and legs were bound, indicating her captive state.
"Her entire family was mercilessly killed by Mr. Raichand, but he chose to spare her life as he did not wish to eliminate the entire family. Furthermore, she may prove to be a valuable asset for us in the future," the man continued with an air of importance.
With that, the man took his leave, leaving Aksh alone with his thoughts and the mysterious girl in his room. He settled himself on the ground beside her, wondering what fate had in store for him now.
He notices that she looks incredibly serene and peaceful. As he gazes at her, he can't help but take note of her delicate features - a small, cute nose and soft, pink lips. She's wearing a beautiful blue frock that only adds to her beauty. Even in this state, she looks stunning.
Turning to look at himself in the mirror, he sees a different image. He feels dirty and unhinged compared to her. He couldn't help but compare himself to her perfection.
As he watches her, he notices how clean and smooth her hands are. He can't resist the urge to touch them with his own rough and parched fingers. But then, he hesitates, afraid that his touch might dirty her pristine skin.
He sits in the corner of the room, unable to take his eyes off of her. He's captivated by her features - a round face with adorable cheeks that he longs to gently caress. It's the first time in his life that he has felt this way towards someone - a strong desire to be close to them and touch them.
But deep down, Aksh knows that he must keep his distance from her. He knows he shouldn't let himself get too close, or else these unfamiliar feelings might consume him completely.
Her light brown hair falls gently around her face, looking silky and lustrous under the sunlight. Aksh can't help but avert his gaze from her because of the overwhelming emotions welling up inside his heart when he looks at her.
He doesn't want to feel this way - it scares him. Growing up without receiving any affection or care from his father or anyone else, Aksh has never felt these kinds of emotions before.
But as much as he tries to push these thoughts away, they continue to linger in his mind, making him feel more drawn towards her with each passing moment.
His father?
Did his father truly abandon him here, to suffer and perish? Despite being the son of one of the wealthiest men in the world, he is treated like an animal, humiliated every day. His existence is a secret, as his father declared him dead at birth. It was all because of a crime he didn't even know he committed - the murder of his mother, Antra Mittal - the woman his father loved most and lost because of him.
This was what Arjun Mittal, his own father, accused him of since the day he was born. His father wanted to eliminate the infant, Aksh, but was saved by Antra's best friend who insisted on keeping her child alive. However, when Aksh turned ten years old, she too left him, claiming to be afraid of him. She said that he showed no emotions except for his frightening eyes - capable of scaring even his own grandmother. When he was born with two teeth, his grandmother deemed him a devil and blamed him for killing his mother.
Growing up with such accusations and being constantly humiliated had no effect on Aksh. In fact, they were right - he felt nothing as he endured daily humiliations and ate leftover scraps for food. His only goal was to survive; he did not want to die in such a degrading manner.
For years, he had repressed his feelings, but upon seeing her delicate beauty, he couldn't understand why his heart was suddenly fluttering. It was as if the greatest happiness in the world was about to come his way.
His train of thought was abruptly interrupted when he noticed the girl stirring on his mattress. As she rubbed her eyes, he couldn't help but feel a surge of alertness and clench his fist.
He wondered what her reaction would be upon seeing him. There were only two possibilities; either she would be afraid and flee, or she would cause him harm. Regardless, he was prepared to face whatever came his way.
As he stood there, gazing at her peaceful form, he couldn't deny the strange pull that she had on him. He found himself drawn to her vulnerability and innocence.
Deep down, he knew that he could never hurt someone as fragile as her. But at the same time, he couldn't shake off the fear of being rejected or hurt by her.
Lost in these conflicting emotions, he stood frozen in place, unsure of what to do next. The only thing certain was that this encounter with the fragile beauty lying before him would change everything.
