I kept watching Carter, trying to get a read on what he was thinking or feeling. He stared at the wall for a minute, then finally looked at me again.
“I…I don’t even know what to ask.”
“Well, Mr. Sinclair,” Kim began, “the first thing you need to know is that you don’t have to say anything right now. You can sit with this information and make a decision later.”
He looked at me. “Is that true?”
I nodded, even though I was hoping he would decide quickly. “Yes. You can have time.”
He relaxed a little after that. “That’s good. It’s a…it’s a lot to process. Right now I feel like I’m a little overwhelmed.”
“Why don’t you tell us a little about yourself, Carter,” I suggested. “You’re married, right?”
