Chapter 1: The Lover’s Betrayal
Fang Yi Lan was a genius medical student at Tsinghua University. At just eighteen years old, Yi Lan had already completed her master’s degree. Now, with the university’s full support, she was working toward her Ph.D. If she managed to complete it by the age of twenty, Yi Lan would become the youngest doctor in the history of Tsinghua University.
Yi Lan once had a brilliant life and career ahead of her. As a prodigy, she worked as a freelance surgeon in several renowned hospitals. Besides her intelligence, Yi Lan was also strikingly beautiful. She had a sweet, delicate face and a petite yet perfectly proportioned figure. Her curves were alluring—her full bosom and slender waist gave her the shape of a Spanish guitar. Behind all her brilliance, however, Yi Lan came from a broken home. When she was only four years old, her father was caught having an affair with his secretary. Since the secretary became pregnant, her father decided to marry her. Because of this, Yi Lan’s mother divorced him.
At first, Yi Lan chose to live with her mother. Unfortunately, two years later, her mother remarried another man and decided to send Yi Lan to live with her grandmother. From then on, Yi Lan was practically abandoned by both her parents.
Under her grandmother’s care, Yi Lan grew into an independent young woman. Thanks to her extraordinary intellect, she completed her education in record time and won many awards at a young age. Because of her outstanding achievements, her father continued to support her financially—though his affection was reserved only for his new wife and stepdaughter. To him, Yi Lan was nothing more than an asset that could bring pride to his name.
At the age of fifteen, Yi Lan began her studies at Tsinghua University. It was there that she met the first man who genuinely cared for her—Song Wu Han. He was a second-year medical student and the only son of the owner of a prestigious hospital in Beijing. Handsome and wealthy, Song Wu Han was highly sought after by many women.
At first, Song Wu Han was drawn to Yi Lan’s intelligence. But as they spent more time together, his admiration grew into affection. Yi Lan was not only brilliant but also gentle and kind. She often helped him complete his complex assignments. Gradually, their relationship deepened. Initially, Wu Han treated Yi Lan like a younger sister, but as she matured into a beautiful and alluring young woman, his feelings for her turned romantic.
Because Song Wu Han had always treated her kindly, Yi Lan did not hesitate to accept his confession. She happily agreed to be his girlfriend. However, everything began to change after Yi Lan introduced him to her father’s family. Her stepsister, Fang Mei Lin, looked at Song Wu Han with eyes full of desire—anyone could see she was infatuated with him.
Since Song Wu Han came from a wealthy family, Yi Lan’s father, Fang Jun Xi, immediately approved of their relationship and even suggested they marry soon. Unfortunately, his young wife, Li Yin, objected. She claimed that Yi Lan was too young for marriage, that it would be a shame for someone so gifted to wed too early. In truth, Li Yin was jealous—jealous that Yi Lan had such a perfect boyfriend. Deep down, she believed her own daughter, Fang Mei Lin, was more suited to be with Song Wu Han.
After that meeting, Li Yin schemed to bring Mei Lin closer to Song Wu Han. She often invited Yi Lan and Wu Han to dinner at their home. During these dinners, she would have Mei Lin ask Wu Han for help with her studies, even requesting him to become Mei Lin’s private tutor.
At first, Song Wu Han was reluctant. But when he asked Yi Lan for her opinion, she merely said, “It’s up to you, ge ge.” Yi Lan didn’t show even a hint of jealousy. Because of her trusting attitude, Wu Han eventually agreed to Li Yin’s request.
In truth, Yi Lan disliked the idea of her boyfriend tutoring her stepsister. She and Mei Lin had never been close, and Mei Lin’s flirtatious behavior toward Wu Han disgusted her. But Yi Lan was overwhelmed by her studies and hospital duties—after classes, she often had surgeries to assist with. She barely had time for Wu Han and didn’t want to appear selfish by objecting to his tutoring Mei Lin.
At first, Yi Lan truly believed that Song Wu Han would stay loyal to her. But on her twentieth birthday, she was struck by a devastating truth. She caught her beloved boyfriend in bed with her stepsister at a five-star hotel.
In that moment, Yi Lan felt as if a knife had pierced her heart. Tears—something she rarely shed—streamed down her cheeks. For the first time in her life, she realized how excruciating it was to be betrayed by the one you love.
“Y...Yi Lan?! What are you doing here?!”
Song Wu Han froze in panic when he saw her. He quickly covered his half-naked body and pushed Fang Mei Lin away from his embrace. Guilt instantly clouded his face—he never imagined their secret affair would be discovered this way.
