In Luling, Ellie had a love of flying that rivaled the Granger boys. Stewart’s brother Lester, Her Uncle Les, owned a small airport. He had a crop duster business and he also ran a charter business. He had been taking Ellie, her sisters, and his two girls on flying trips since they were old enough to buckle into the seats on the plane.
He began letting Ellie take over the controls, for short periods of time, when she was twelve. She was a natural with the flying, and she loved it.
