CHAPTER 4
A week after Morgan’s departure, Alison was not feeling well. She decided to visit a clinic two blocks from her mom’s house. It was a small neighborhood clinic. There was a nurse practitioner and a midwife running it. There was a doctor on call if he was needed. Alison did not make an appointment. She left her work an hour early and stopped on her way home.
Alison had bought a small used car, so she would not have to keep borrowing her mom’s car.
The desk clerk greeted her, cheerfully, and asked her to be seated and fill out some papers. She filled out the papers and took them to the clerk.
