After weeks of traveling, saving up our hard-earned gold, and searching for a place to settle down, Luca, May, and I finally found our ideal town. Havenbrook.
Luca had always been a fighter at heart, so she decided to train in combat. Her relentless determination and newfound skills in swordplay and archery made us feel safer than ever. Her confidence was something to behold.
As for me, I learned the art of nursing and medicine. I became proficient in tending to wounds, brewing medicinal remedies, and providing solace to those in pain. I kept thinking back to when Alistair and Lucius were poisoned, and how helpless I was. That was a situation I didn't want to repeat in any way.
One fateful day, as the three of us were resting in a quaint inn after a long day's journey, a kind-hearted stranger overheard Luca boasting of her newfound combat skills and me discussing my newfound nursing abilities. This stranger, who turned out to be a citizen of the town of Havenbrook, approached us with an offer. Havenbrook was in dire need of a skilled warrior and a compassionate nurse. It was as if fate had brought us to this very moment.
With excitement and a touch of trepidation, we thought about their offer and journeyed to Havenbrook. The town was nestled in a picturesque valley, surrounded by lush forests and cradled by a crystal-clear river. It felt like a haven of peace and serenity.
Luca applied to be a town guard, ensuring the safety of its inhabitants. I, on the other hand, started to work at a clinic as a children's nurse.
May, started school here as well.
Luca and I had decided for the group that we had to change our identities and appearences to better our chances at blending in. We didn't want to bring any unwnated attention as three women living by themselves.
Luca chose to cut her hair very short and start presenting as a man. That way I would be the pretend wife and May would be our pretend daughter. I also cut mine but to shoulder length. I also decided to constantly hide it. We then changed my name to Emily.
To them we were just an average family getting by just like everyone else.
Luca had received a sign on bonus when they had seen she had a "wife and child" and wanted us to properly settle down. We were ecstatic because that gave us enough for our own house. It was a three bedroom, and a little run down, but nothing we couldn't fix.
It was still better then sleeping out in the open.
After a few more months we were actually settled in. Luca went to work every morning along with May who went to school. I quit as a nurse to be able to sell medicine to our neighbors which makes alot more. I still do home visits for simple healing when I am asked which pays good as well.
Overall, everything is great. Also my relationship with the girls is fantastic. As an only child I always wondered what it would be like to have siblings. Now I have them, because I consider them my sisters. I know they feel the same about me. I tell them everything and they do the same.
I even told Luca about Alistair and Lucius. She was bewildered at my past and started calling me princess as a joke. Luca was worried about the brothers , but I had reassured her if we hadn't encountered them by now we probably never will.

Luca came home unusually early today, her face beaming with excitement as she entered our shared home. I was perched on the couch, engrossed in a book, and I glanced up to see her practically bubbling with enthusiasm.
"Hey, Luca, what's got you so giddy?" I asked, marking my page and setting the book aside.
She plopped down next to me, her enthusiasm spilling over. "Emily, you won't believe what happened today! There's this new boy at work, and he is just...adorable!"
I couldn't help but smile at her infectious energy. "Really? Tell me more! What's he like?"
Luca began describing this boy, sharing every detail of their brief interaction and how she found his sense of humor, smile, and kindness utterly endearing. I listened with rapt attention, happy for my friend and secretly amused by her infatuation.
When she finally paused for a breath, she turned the tables on me. "So, Em, what about you? Do you think anyone is cute?"
I hesitated, not wanting to admit the truth. "Well, not really," I finally replied with a shrug, trying to sound nonchalant. The reality was that I hadn't felt that spark of attraction in a long time, and I wasn't sure if it was ever going to happen again. Maybe the truth was that I had already met the most beautiful men alive. No one can compare.
Luca raised an eyebrow, her eyes twinkling mischievously. "Come on, there has to be someone. What about that Evan boy from next door. I see how he eyes you, and gets all nervous when you talk to him."
I chuckled. "No Luca. I'm not really interested in something like that anyway. Especially with him. I'm also married remember" I waved my fake ringed finger in her face.
Luca laughed out loud. "Whatever princess. But if you really don't like anyone I'll leave you alone. I'm just so excited about the new guy"
I rolled my eyes playfully, "I'm also happy to hear about your newfound crush. It's about time you found someone who piques your interest."
We laughed together, Luca's enthusiasm contagious.
I am very happy for her and I hope one day things could be different and she could live how she wants. Until then we are stuck like this. Not that I don't find this situation ideal. Things could be worse, but still.
On top of that hearing her swoon over a guy made me suddenly think of Alistair and Lucius. I admit that I found myself missing them. Their looks, their smell, their warm embrace...
Lately when I'm out running errands, I feel like I can see Alistair's blonde hair in my peripheral vision, but when I turn there's obviously no one there. Other times I even get a whiff of his smell of lavender and clean laundry. This just goes to show that I liked them more then I realized, or I'm that going crazy.
I do often wonder how they reacted to see I was gone. Did they move on? Did they find someone else to show their affections to? Regardless, I hope they're doing okay, wherever they are.
