Lost Wolf

Chapter 20

Ashton POV

Lose my wolf. I've never even experienced having a wolf and now I might never get to. I found myself mourning something I never truly had. And then my eyes met Damon's and I realized I would most likely lose him too. What would he want with an ordinary human? I was falling for this man in such a short time and it's going to be over before it truly started.

"Hey, it's ok" Damon voice came out gentle and caring. He lightly nudged my chin with his fingers bringing my eyes to his.

"I will do everything I can to help you. I won't let you lose her."

That made the tears, that I was trying so desperately to hold back, flow freely.

Damon wrapped me in a warm hug and just held me.

Once my breathing started to regulate he pulled back and looked at me. "Tell me where your head is at?"

"I don't want to lose this," I said quietly

"I know..." Damon started to say but I interrupted.

"Not just my wolf, this new life I just started, this place.... you" I held my breath waiting for his reaction.

"Me? You think you're going to lose me?" He replied.

I nodded slightly.

"Ashton, listen to me, you're my mate. You will always be my mate, with or without your wolf. Of course, I want you to have your wolf, mostly for you and partly for Vaelric but even if you don't have her, you're still mine."

I let my body relax. He still wants me even knowing all this.

I felt happiness spread across my face. This man.... is mine.

I wrapped my arms around his neck and push my lips against his hungrily. He didn't hesitate to meet mine with the same intensity.

Then I suddenly remembered we weren't alone. I quickly pulled back to see Dr Crawford with a big smile on her face. My cheeks instantly became red with embarrassment.

"I... umm.. thank you doctor," I said clearing my throat and trying to rid myself of my embarrassment.

"You're welcome Ashton. Alpha, don't hesitate to reach out if you need anything else." Dr Crawford said with a chuckle.

I watched her leave before I turned back to Damon.

"Who is Vaelric?" I asked him, finally realizing what he said moments ago.

"Oh, he's my wolf." Damon said.

"Hmm..... Vaelric" I repeated, more to myself this time. Something about the name felt..... right.

Damon POV

The way she repeated my wolf's name made him growl lowly with satisfaction. He liked his name on her lips. He was anxious to meet her wolf.

When Ashton heard his growl, I swear for just a split second, her eyes flickered to gold. Maybe her wolf was also anxious to meet him. Maybe Vaelric was the answer.

"Why don't we go have an early lunch?" I asked Ashton. "You didn't eat much breakfast and you'll be able to focus better if you're not hungry," I finished telling her.

She simply nodded and followed me out of the room.

Grady POV

"Dr Crawford?" I was hoping to catch her as she was leaving. "I need a favor" I said once she turned around.

"Sure, what can I help you with Beta Grady?" She responded.

"We are trying to find out more about Ashton's past and the possibly of her being the Shadow Heir. I believe she was most likely adopted into a human family but she has no knowledge of such. Can you reach out to the human hospitals in the area and see if you can find the full records from her birth?" I noticed her eyes grew slightly at the mention of Shadow Heir. "I trust that this will remain only between the parties involved. There should be no mention of the Shadow Heir to anyone besides myself, Alpha and Ashton," my voice firm.

"Yes, of course Beta Grady. I will see what I can find and get back to you" she said as she turned to leave.
