After the heated arguement Sebastian had with his dad, he immediately went back to his bedroom to think.
Confused and tormented, Sebastian took a bottle of whiskey from his mini bar and went to his balcony hoping for everything to vanish and go the way he wanted it to be.
But before he can gulp on his 3rd shot of whiskey, Mrs. Smith suddenly interrupted him.
“Is that how you are going to celebrate your last day of singleness my son?” Mrs. Smith teased as she moved closer to Sebastian.
Sebastian sneered and drunk the shot on his hand. “Mom, don’t you know how to knock now?!”
“Is that how you answer your mom Sebastian?!” Mrs. Smith answered with a raised brow and a raised tone.
Of her 2 sons, it was Sebastian who respected and loved her the most. He was the one who made sure she was okay and well. He was the closest to her and Sebastian always made sure he was always there for her mother everytime she feels alone and lonely.
Sebastian did not answer and instead only looked away.
Sensing the hurt and guilt in Sebastian for the way he reacted towards her, Mrs. Smith then sat beside her son and held his hand.
“Son, what’s bothering you? Tell mom. You know I am always all ears.”
“Nothing mom. I am fine. Don’t worry about me.”
“I know you son, I carried yopu for 9 months, I was the one who took care of you and I saw you grew up. What happen jus now? Why did you stormed off your dad’s office?”
Sebastian sighed and glanced at his mom. “I told dad that I am not going to attend the wedding tomorrow.”
“Oh! You won't attend your own wedding?” Mrs. Smith asked as she was shocked when she heard Sebastian’s answer. “Why? I mean- Is there someone else? Theresa is the only woman in your life that I know off aside me.” Mrs. Smith jokingly added.
“Mom please. I am dead serious." Sebastian paused and sighed. "Just leave me alone, okay?”
“Sebastian honey, what is really going on? Why are you thinking like that now?"
“I just can’t marry her mom. This is wrong. I don’t want to hurt her. I- I can’t hurt her.” Sebastian answered as he pulled his hand from his mom and stood up towards the ledge of his balcony.
“Hurt her? You would never hurt her, you doted on her since you were both young. You always looked after her and took care of her from afar. What happen now?” Mrs. Smith asked in confusion.
Of all the people who knew Sebastian well, just like her mom and his best friend Rupert Stone, it was a no brainer that Theresa was Sebastian’s childhood sweetheart and is his only forever love, but in a chain of events that happend in his life as he grew older his perception took a 360 turn, and locked the love he had.
“I have long gone rejected and forbid that feeling mom. I can’t love her and I am already accustomed to that now.”
Mrs. Smith did not answer right away and instead stood up and walked towards her son.
“Where is this all coming from? What happen, that I did not know about?”
Sebastian sighed and faced his mom.
“Mom, I can’t – I can’t be like dad. I don’t want to be him. I can't love and marry Theresa.”
Mrs. Smith held Sebastian’s hand and asked him in full confusion. “Why are you saying that? You are not like your dad at all, and I know you will never be him. You are you and will always be you, my son. You are unique in your own way. The both of you are 2 different people.”
“Mom- Remember what Uncle Sam asked me to do? I can’t do it. I just can’t with all the loads I have with me now, the responsibility, dad layed out my path for me and I just can't reject it, what will happen to our business and everything you and dad built.”
Mrs. Smith caressed his son’s face and answered. “I remember it very well, and I also remember he said that he believes in you and that you are perfect for his daughter.” Mrs. Smith paused and smiled sweetly at Sebastian. “You know there are things in life that makes us afraid, that is a fact. I hvae been there myself. But you will never really know what it’s going to be like when you will not give it a try. Sebastian, you will be fine. You will do well and I know you will succeed in everything that you will do. Though your dad have been very loyal to us and he has provided us with everything we could ask and want for, but I know deep down inside. Deep down in your heart, you will always find a way to better off things. Theresa loves you and I know you do too. Why not give it a try, okay?”
“Mom, I can’t stand seeing Theresa going through what you went through. How you would cry yourself to sleep, how you took care of us all alone, your sleepless nights waiting for dad or for his messages. How dad treats you just like a plain housewife. Yes, he has never had gambling and drinking problems, in fact he did not have any side chicks. He was obsessed with his work and earning. But did he even showed you that he loves you like the way you showed him how much you love him? Never!” Sebastian answered angrily.
“I know, and it was my choice to stay with him. Because you know what, I know he still and will always need me even if he will not say it. Same will go to you and Theresa, you will always need each other and you both will always have each other. But you know what, I am very glad and lucky that I have you and your brother and I also know you will not do the same to Theresa.”
“How sure are you mom? I mean dad is making a hell of my life now, I haven't even met her since the enagagement party and that was months ago, and the least I can do is drag Theresa in this hell. Uncle Sam won’t be able to forgive me.” Sebastian answered as he sat down on the chair. "She herself has been going around taking care of their business so as I, how am I supposed to better off myself with that. And after we get married, I will be taking over their company that is twice as big as ours.
“I know you won’t. Because you are my son and Theresa is a very good daughter too. You both will figure something out.” Mrs. Smith answered as she tapped Sebastian’s shoulder and smile. “You better prepare now, we are leaving early tomorrow, I can’t wait to see my daughter-in-law. I’ve always dreamt of having a daughter and now I will finally have one.” Mrs. Smith added excitedly as she pinched Sebastian’s cheeks as if trying to cheer him up and finally left his room.
As soon as Sebastian’s mom left the room, Sebastian took a deep breath and sighed deeply. “Damn this stupid life!” he thought to himself as he sunk unto his chair.
Sebastian’s POV: Flash back
At the Smith’s mansion, Mrs. Smith was busy manning the helpers on what to prepare for Sebastian’s luggage and the things that he will be bringing with him.
Ever since the Smith’s had kids, William, Sebastian’s dad have strongly demanded for Daisy, Sebastian’s mom to just stay home instead and manage the house and personally take care of the kids while everything else have been provided well by Mr. Smith himself.
“Mom?” Sebastian suddenly spoke as he entered his walk-in closet.
Mrs. Smith then turned around to see Sebastian standing tall with his new glasses on feeling a bit agitated.
She then caressed his face and softly answered. “You look extra good on you glasses son. I like it better that the last one”
“Mom, I told you this is the last glasses I will have. I am taking the contact lenses next time.” Sebastian retaliated as his mother laughed. “Mom, you are changing the topic here.”
“Oh right, what is it you need to tell me?”
“Can I leave next month instead?” Sebastian asked in a hoarse voice feeling very nervous.
Mrs. Smith was taken aback by her son’s sudden and unusual request but somehow happy that he could spend more time with him.
“Did I heard it right? You want to postpone your flight?”
Sebastian did not answer and only nodded in agreement.
“Of course you can my son, I am actually very glad. But why the sudden change in your plans? I mean you have been talking non-stop about this and even wanting to leave sooner.” Mrs. Smith asked feeling a bit lost with his son sudden change in plan.
“I know mom. I know. It’s just that-“ Sebastian paused as his mom looked at him as if asking him to go on. He then took a deep breath and continued. “It’s because, The-Theresa is coming home in 2 weeks. A-and she said she wanted to se-see me. I want to see her too mom.” Sebastian added as she stuttered afraid of how her mother will react with the foolish request he made now.
